Yesterday on the beach chasing stripers in the surf I had to move my truck and the sand being so soft I had problems. I had to put truck in low range and I only use 1st or 2nd most of the time. Well I didn't and trans made a grinding sound:rolleyes: I thought that the transfer case wasn't in gear all the way. Long story short when I got on to high way the trans seemed to shift funny I stopped and there was a little fluid at the inspection plate under the converter. I drove some more and everything was fine until a block from home and no overdrive it won't shift it's like the od switch is off. The fluid is dripping just a little. It doesn't look bad or smell. The trans was completly rebuilt almost 2 years ago. Any ideas what this might be. I'm going to call the shop Mon morning but I thought I would ask just assuming the worst. :(

JL, the poor guy needs our help! Is that all you can say?

Sounds like the front seal or converter leaking. That's my guess.

So, how about the strippers:D

This thread is really in trouble. It started with a guy going fishing and having transmission problems. Now it is about strippers. :--) :D Unfortunately, I can't help with either. :(

Never done anything other than routine maintenance on a transmission, never fished for stipers, and my stripper chasing days are over.

No!no stripers. It seems that the fluid was coming from the vent at the front of the trans. The fluid was pushed back it to the pan and starved the converter which is the reason the fluid level was so high on the stick. Either the pump has failed or a valve has. No scrapnal found in the pan but I'll find out more tomorrow. :p

I'd love to help, but I have absolutely NO experience with transmission stripers, and I don't want any either!:-laf

I humbly suggest you call ... Bill at 1-866-504-4002. .

He/they have never failed to offer some help or advice to someone, even if you are not a customer at the time...

Well you see being a manual transmission guy myself, the only help I can offer is to try a 4 inch minnow with a lead head or a black broken back rebel.

I've had fair luck with those as long as the bluefish aren't around to tear them up.

:--)

I've had a few days where having a couple of nice fish in the cooler seemed to pull me out of the throngs of adversity.

John, I hope your transmission's problem is an easy & cheap one to solve.

HUH???

These "stripers" and "throngs," are they the same things that I saw on Friday night in East St. Louis????:D

Oh, and sorry John, I don't have a clue about autos.

Hang in John... we'll get your problem fixed... it's just every now and then the diesel "euphoria" hits more than a couple guys at one time and it gets kinda... . well... . strange in here is all...

ps: see my previous post.
