Like many I've read here, the transmission cooler lines rubbed a hole in themselves just in front of the oil pan years ago! #@$%!
First, to get out of trouble, I fixed it with a coupling, but did that on a temporary basis, I just didn't like that.
Then, having the resources handy, I fabricated a new pipe out of 1/2" soft tubing. That one worked well..... but! Every year or so, the flare would begin a slight leak, the result of vibration + heat/cooling + soft tubing would be my guess. It is a hated task to climb under and get soaked in transmission fluid every couple years.
I was getting ready to jump into it again a few days ago as the leak was just getting too much to ignore any longer.
I ran across a thread, and in the thread, PRohr (Phil) had told how he fixed the problem by using Jegs 8AN fittings and push loc hose! I contacted Phil and he related to me that the one color hose had deteriated but the replacement they sent him (for free!) had been going for a year and a half!
That's got to be easier to just cut off the hose and slip another on, if and when it deteriates again, so I make a call to Jegs and tell them what I am doing. They sent me the black hose, BTW. About an hours work this morning and "old Leaky" is dry as a bone! Oo.
I only replaced the line from the drivers side of the transmission to the heat exchanger under the turbo since that is the only one that leaks, but FYI, here is what I needed to do just that:
1 - 8AN to 1/4" NPT for the transmission 361-981607
1 - 8AN to push loc hose 90 Deg. fitting 555-100072
1 - 8AN to push loc hose straight fitting 555-100052
IF you want to replace the fitting into the heat exchanger, you would need a 3/8" to 8AN fitting, part # 555-100107 but the stock fitting mates well with the 8AN straight fitting.
Black 1/2" hose 555-102023
I would suggest the prep kit to make it real easy, part # 555-28010, it contains the pipe dope, and a lube to make it easy to push the hose on. Personally, being reasonably cheap, I used teflon tape, and a finger full of transmission fluid, the fluid being easy to find!
The 8AN fittings use a 7/8" wrench to tighten.
The 8AN to 1/4" NPT fitting uses a 13/16" wrench to tighten.
The fitting at the heat exchanger uses a 3/4" wrench IF you want to remove it. My deep 3/4" socket had to be tapped on separately and then put the socket extension in to remove, but came off fairly easily.
I've used Jegs in the past, and they were just great to deal with, and it shipped from Ohio to Virginia in 2 days.

I really want to thank Phil for posting this fix. I'll let the forum know if it fails miserably on me! Sure is easier than dealing with the hard pipe though, and since I could order everything from one place, easy to do.
Not sure if everywhere is like this, but MAN, in Northern Virginia, real parts stores are just harder and harder to find, guess all the yuppies drove them out!
Thanks, and I hope someone can find this useful.
