I wish it could do that. I thought I might try to keep it goin gfor at least a 20 minute run for each oil on the dyno. Get it to about 70MPH and set the cruise.

Fluid's & Temp's

I will re-state Full syntheties Will not tolarate much moisture...

and cost has two sides. that which we pay when when drain and refills are done ---and --- the new to rebuild cost of operation. AT this point is when the true cost of the lube of your choice is knowen...

And one has to consider where and under what conditions of operation the unit is going to operate.

Say north/south pole--Full syntheties,, Easy to start and lubricates quicker. Ever start a gaser/or/ big rig a -15 - 30 deg and 30 sec later with the transmission in nuteral let out on the clutch and kill the eng??? cold Oil base lube will NOT lube untill it and the say gears or cyl wall's/pistons warm up a few Deg's .

Block heaters are used in eng's to start & get the luge working-- If you warm up the eng 10-15 min before flying out the drivethe transmission fluid & gears have been warmed up. BUTbeing you havent eased down the road a few miles slowly the rear end bearing's and gears and are sliding metal to metal... Yes they may be covered in lube it is not working what ever the brand name,& the heaver the wt the longer with out friction protection. .

Temp bragging rights... to a point the lighter the lube the cooler the gear case will run. .

Take any of the same mfg's lube. start with the heaviest 140

load the veh to the max++,run over the desert floor and up the side of the mountain with outside temp of say 95,the case should reg some where around 230 deg. .

Now drain and runthe same trip with 90w140--case temp will drop. proubly around 200 range.

Then go to 75w80 another case temp drop. should be 175 -180deg. Now if you have a good additive package your in luck.

As far as wt , 90 is the same as 50 wt oil--the additive pack is what makes the differance.

Thats why the synthetics sample came back as 30 wt. The lab cant factor in the add pack to come up with the mfg's wt rating stated on the side of the bottle.

10 wt eng oil is the same as ATF fluid put higher refineing and additive package.

I have had the pleasure or miss pleasure of see'ing and measureing the internal parts of my transmission when i went in to do a 5 th gear repair-again at 194k at which time i installed a new main shaft(to be fair) when i did a test of the split nut, again with 49k on top of that,. .

When i drained the factory fill at 4k and noted a couple rust spots i recalled the trouble a small local fleet had with moisture in there rear drives of new rigs with syn'ths and had to do complete bearing changes,

Thats when i found the snytec , semi-synthetiec.

The best of both worlds.

Some have said semi - syn. not a tru syntheic... Which is true. . How ever you never hear them state that if- say you have a seal failure and you cant get your lube, you can dump any amount of natural gear lube in WITHOUT complete drain an drive on home for repairs . To much in a full synthetic and it will turn too

non lubricating goo balls. .

Into racing, tight clearances, syntheties is the why to go,beond that it is climate, driving habits,,,and check book.

Lube revisited

Funny some one should bring up Eaton/Rockwell.

Having been in the transportation industry longer most of you have held a license, tool chest parked at the same address for 25 yrs. Left as manitance director for some fun while still young enough ,had a fleet of 100+ power units 200+ trailers. Point is we were a fleet everone wanted to be like didnt have to do overhaul's on transmission's or rear end's and very few eng'ns(driver abuse) or for a for better resale value, none of our tractors were ever traded in there was always people waiting at the door.

One day eaton came in and said you can have 300k/3 year warranty only if you use our new synthetic lube, which was mfg'd by mobile. We told them we'll have the warranty and use our lube..... They knew our track record and backed off. .

The specialty company which made the eng oil and gear lube we used was P. M. E. then became Century, now part of the Fuchs familey. 85 w 90 semi-syn the great thing was only had one lube for wheel bearings transmission & rears. . Should have bought stock!!!

Only lube in rear of my dodge,(have to add the modifier)and there 15-40 in the eng. Might add those that use the big red star's high end gear lube----mfg'd by--you guess'ed it... ... !

Back in the 70's we used a brand of oil(not over the counter) they shipped the wrong blend(poure point) to the wrong (-30 deg) part of the world which caused a hassle over 5 eng's so we switched brands... . Later we found out thru the salesman his cut of each sale was 50% per gal. !!!!! It was good oil,but they screwed up ,then tryed to get out of the repair cost. .
