I was crawling underneath my truck this morning and to my pleasant surprise I saw I had a Mag-Hytec double deep transmission pan. This truck is new to me and I still find aftermarket parts on it. This got me thinking, if my truck came with a Banks Bullet tuner and a Mag-Hytec transmission pan, what are the chances the transmission has also been modified (non-stock). Is there any way to tell whether the transmission is stock or has been upgraded?

You should be able to tell if it was modified by simply driving it. The built 48REs launch harder, hold gears longer, and shift harder. I have not heard of the builders identifying the built units.

You never know - even if you pulled the pan. I had a DTT valve body in my transmission on my '01, but you probably wouldn't know unless you drove my truck and a stock one back to back. You couldn't tell by looking! :)

Personally, I wouldn't spend the money for a double deep pan if I were not upgrading some of the internals... . I do not believe the extra capacity by itself would be a great benefit.
