Got the transmission out, changed converters, and switched valve bodies.

The whole job took about 7 hours. No frame spreaders or magic tools required other than a lift and a 55 gallon drum to sit the transmission on.

No adjustments required, everything is in order. Truck shifts good and hard, but not too hard. Just enough to let you know whats going on. I could tell a difference as soon as I put it in gear to go for a drive. I like it very much.

I have a couple questions. What was the diode for... I mean what does it do? I put it on that orange wire for the #31 pin. Just wanted to know why I did it.

The second thing is, the truck will not start in P now, only N. Every gear works perfectly including P, but the truck will not start unless you drop it down to N.

Is this an electrical neutral safety switch problem, or a linkage problem? I am guessing its an electrical problem I need to fix. Any ideas? If anyone has questions on how/what to do, let me know.

Chad--the resistor is needed to fool something--I think it keeps the ohms down to factory or below because the new set-up produces more--that's the way I kinda remember--short memory--sorry I can't be more specific but Bill said put it in when I called him about it... ... . I just put my valve body in last weekend and the T/C went in last Thurs. ---don't know what to make of no start in park as mine works--I don't know how the wiring works(no manual) but could there be a pin inside one of the connectors that got bent over when you reconnected the wiring harnesses--wish I could be of more help----the truck sure feels like it wants go, go , go with Bills set-up doesn't it------chris

I'm not for sure what the resistor is for either, but I found out that without it when you floor it at around 60 or 70 mph my transmission wouldn't downshift into 1st. I called Bill and he told me to put in a bigger resistor. I haven't yet but will be putting in a 200 ohm resistor soon.

Steve--I'll have to check that out now that the t/c is in. Mine did the same thing before T/C install. Keep us posted on what size you put in and how it worked and I'll do the same if I beat ya to it. chris

Oh, another thing, what was that aluminum round rod for with the flat end? I know it could double as an adjustment tool for the band, but what was the flat end for??

Oh yea, THAT tool. Before you put the valve body back in, you should have placed it into manual low. Then you have to get the parking rod into the valve body. Then you use that tool to put the e-clip back on the parking rod. It works great. The rod is so hard to reach, I can't imagine trying to get the clip back on without the tool.

I got the clip on with a pair of needle nose pliers--it took a couple of tries but I got it--I actually forgot about the tool--of course I had a guy holding the vb up for me, otherwise major swearing would've commenced---chris

I was impressed with the ease of instalation. Either I am getting real good at working on stuff, or I am getting older, wiser, and a little less hot headed. Probably a little of both I guess. Never had one explosion... well I did when I rammed my head into the lower control arm. Other than that, no throwing tools, threatening to kill anyone or all out beating anything with hammers. I got an email from Stephan, he said he would call his dad (Bill K) and ask about the P situation. But dont let that stop any of you with ideas from replying. I want to get this wrapped up ASAP.

I am going to be putting in one of Bills valve bodies this weekend. (hopefully) Does anybody have any helpful hints? I know alot about my Cummins, but when it comes to the transmission I have to admit that I don't know much. Thanks!

I just got an email from Bill and his Son. I crimped the diode in... thats a "no-no", so I will have to solder it in as soon as I get a chance. If any of you have any questions, as always feel free to ask and I will help where I can.

chad , i'll guess its a misaglinment of your shift linkage , mine doesn't start in neutral , it did before i pulled it apart, going to the dealer one last time before i hit 36k ... in 600 miles , i put 36k on my ram in less that 13months time #ad
, i'll have them adjust my linkage again .

don't know about the frame spreader deal , but without it mine wasn't going back together .

the resistor is to fool the computer into thinking the line pressure is lower , it will set a code and cause a problem i guess like steve g is having
 
Chad et al, The resister is so the trans doesn't start off in second or third... Don't forget to change your fluid after 500 miles, as Bill K. recommends. . He also has two different recommendations for fluid depending on your driveability wants... Also talk to him about the friction modifiers, before you add any... ...

2000ney , i picked up a half sec in the quarter mile when i switched to the DTT TC and VB , this was in a hi boost condition launch , without any extra boost it was actually a tad slower , maybe . 1 , not really sure as my dragstrip testing didn't include to many no boost launches once i saw how much faster i was getting down the track leaving the line at 20 psi #ad
 
Well I found out that little plastic piece that hits the neutral safty switch, located on the valvebody itself, is broke. I emptied the bag the valve body came in, and sure enough it fell out. Now I have to drop the valvebody AGAIN and fix that plastic piece. Other than that its good to go.
