I have a 47 re 4x4 and last week i picked up a tie down strap on the road. It wrapped around the drive shaft and snagged on the rear bar on the rear end and went SNAP . I stopped the truck and after i figured out what happened, i crawled under the truck and cut it out . It got into the seal on the rear end ,and i had to replace it.
Then a few days later, it started not wanting to shift out of first, if i let off the peddle, it will shift and all is fine. It just is the 1st to 2nd shift, R and 2-3 lockup and od ok.
I replaced the filter and fluid, adjusted the bands and then replaced the speed sensor on the rear of the transmission, no joy.
I ordered a transmission governor pressure sensor and a new governor pressure solenoid, the top 2 here.
A518 A618 46RE 47RE 48RE transmission solenoids A518 A618 46RE 47RE 48RE

I have not received them yet, any other suggestions or ideas?
Thanks for the help.

I got my parts today and we will try to get at it tommorow, but was hoping for other ideas what to check or any thing else to do while we are in there.

Well it didn't help, I put in the new solenoid and sensor, it still doesn't shift out of first unless you back off the peddle, no slip (unless it is at the top of first and not in second, then it just tach's up to 2500 or so back off and it goes to second.

I have a transgo shift kit that i never got around to putting in, do you think it will help? or do i need to go to a shop and get it looked at.

Other then the 1st to second shift it works fine.

Any ideas>

Dirk

Depending on what solenoid you got, they can be bad out of the box. If you can you need to check your gov pressures to make sure they are ramping correctly otherwise it won't shift. Since the gov pressure is controlled by the ECM you need to make sure the strap did not snag any other wires or mess up the output speed sensor plug\wires anywhere.

fIRST TO 2ND. KICKDOWN LEVER IS BROKEN . You have to get into the transmission to replace it. I finally bought an after market one made out chrome steel ( the orginal is pot metal or aluminum)... Havent had a problem since. Trying to remember where I got it. Myabe someone else can help on thast subject.
