I have had this problem shortly after installing a new vb & t. c.

I was getting hunting in and out of lock up at 40-45mph. there was no way to tow. and have had many vacations planned . attacking the problem the best i could, using info sights, and turbo diesel specialists. i also took it by the dealer. after a short drive they said, pull out ,and replace the v/b with a stocker and we can work on it. I no longer had a stocker so i went down other avenues.

since then , i have tried the happy box . cleaned the Bat's. reset the apps, replaced the solenoid gov. replaced the o. d. speed-sensor, removed lock up box, had an updated re flash.

installed a second v/b. All this was not done exactly in this order. the bottomline is, yes, i still have the same problem . and also a new little glitch where i get a fast 2-3 shift. I have no idea were to go. any info would be appreciated. thanks, Robert, stuck in sandiego

Sounds like you need to contact DTT or ATS. It apears the dealer is of no help at all. Both of these aftermarket vendors have excellent reputations and appear to be willing to offer excellent advise just by a phone call. You can get their toll free nmumbers from this site. I dont have the numbers handy or I would give them to you. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Clint's number at ATS is 800-949-6002

I'm in Santa Monica if I can be of any help. I probably can't make a run to San Diego as I am busy, but if the truck were up here I could help. Also I bet ATS has a shop in Dago who maybe can diagnose what the real problem is. Good luck.

I didn't see the TPS anywhere in your list of stuff looked at and fixed. I would look there. I purchased a torque converter lock-up switch from Suncoast. It locks my converter at 35 up. The only downside that I have found running it is this: When you have it on if you are at moderate to light throttle it will grab O/D at 35. I just use my O/D lock-out button like a manual shifter. When I want O/D, I hit it, when I want to downshift I lightly touch the throttle and hit the button.

RedPowerWagon if the Happibox did not fix it I bet its your TPS. The Happibox takes the signal (clean and direct) from the tps directly to transmission. So it would make sense that would be the next thing to check. Some trans place have the ability (dignostics) to log the TPS signal direct before the ECM/PCM. That would tell you if its bad. Short of that replacing it on a 99 is not cheap.

Thanks to everyone for your replies. It seems to me that i

recall the mechanic who is helping me with this, had a tps on his shelf . he tried it as i remember. i will double check.

Interestingly enough, the 45 mph problem is clear now. after changing out the o. d. sensor with no luck. the next day i pulled the batt. terminals and reset the pedal. [ as i have done many times before ] that problem has been cleared for about a week now. . Although, the new glitch that appeared with the second valvebody [ats] is a really quick 2-3 shift, along with a stubborn 15 mph shift . It acts as it cant decide weather to shift or not. this has never been an issue until now. . I called ats, and tech guy gave me some pointers to try. "throttle valve pressure, and check the band tension" . I have another appointment at the shop set for 12-4-03 If my truck doesn't catch fire , gets stolen or pushed over a cliff, maybe this problem will get resolved yet... thanks again Robert.

just went thru the whole thing myself. several times.

my truck was going in and out of lock up at 50mph+. especially under light throttle. you need to be checking your voltages going down the road with the dvm in the truck with you. mine were flucuating wildly. i suspect noise in the harness. i re-wired the tps. easy, fast and it fixed my problem.

you need to tap 1 pigtail onto the signal wire and hook a dvm to it and take it for a drive with the dvm in the cab with you. it takes 2 minutes.

you should probably tap the signal wire on the passenger side. close to the pcm to see what kind of signal the pcm is getting.
