I've a 97 2500 with the auto transmission and I'm starting to lose overdrive. It sometimes drops out of overdrive into 3rd and then stays there for a while. My truck only has 82k and the biggest thing I haul is a 2500 lb camper but I've heard so much bad about this transmission, I've just been waiting for something to go wrong.

I know there are some members up here and wonder if anybody knows of a good transmission place near Anchorage or the valley. I really don't want to go to the dealer and if I have to have some work done, I'd rather upgrade to some of the aftermarket stuff.

I had the "Transmission Center" in wasilla install all my DTT upgrades on my 1996. The shop is so clean you could eat off the floor. 50,000 miles later and it is working great. They took the time to call DTT and discuss proper install techniques. Give them a call at 376-8585 and ask for Larry. I have no interest in this company just a happy customer who would not hesitate to recommend their business.

I'll second that recommendation for "The Transmission Center" in Wasilla. They dealt with Bill K. at DTT on my transmission as well and did everything he asked of them. The transmission Center was really receptive to what he needed them to do. I know there's more than a few members here who have used them for their DTT and ATS installs as well.

Where in Alaska are you. When I had a 97 gasser, any colder than 5 degrees and I had the same problem. The owners manual states that any colder than 5 degrees and the transmission won't shift into overdrive. If you get into overdrive and it is cold, as soon as you slow down you will be without it again. I used to pull over and let the truck idle for a few minutes and then it would work again. Not sure if it applies to Cummins, probably not, but I figured I let ya know. If you are in Fairbanks, PM me and I will see what I can find for you.
