Ok it is 4*F this morning and I have experienced this problem before but not nearly as bad. My truck when put in park will not come back out of park. I fought it for 5-10 mins this morning before it finally let me shift into reverse which immediately engaged as always and away i go. Then drive no problems hesitation or failure of any other kind. Now I have it sitting at the back door of my shop refusing to do anything. The truck has 74,000 miles on it. I have a couple of theories. 1 low on fluid 2 bad or failing nuetral safety switch 3 bad parking pawl or sprag or both. Immediate assistance is requested. Help.

Doubt that the problem is with the transmission. There have been reports on here of this problem and if I remember correctly, the problem is with a switch or dowell on the steering column that gets stuck. bg

The brake interlock switch is probably hanging up when it is cold. Will it shift ok whne the interior warms? Try getting the cab good and warm first and see if that helps.

I thought that I read were some people have removed some kind of dowel pin from the steering column. I don't know where the dowel pin is or how difficult this task is.

The brake interlock has a pin in it, thta is what people think they are removing. You have to break or disassemble the brake interlock to remove the pin.
