Transmission "stutter" on downshift

I have a 2014 Ram 3500 Diesel and love it for hauling my truck camper.

This winter, with camper off, I have noticed a persistent "stutter" on the downshift when I release the accelerator and coast.

It creates a small shudder.

I have not noticed any hesitation on acceleration - only the hesitation when the pedal is let off.



Any thoughts / comments?

I think it is either new or has gotten worse, or, I am just noticing it. Only had the truck for a year.

When I bought it it had a delayed reverse problem that was fixed under warranty,

It's probably normal ... my truck does different things depending on if it has a load in the box or not. I would crawl underneath and look for obvious things, worn u-joint or steady bearing (if equipped).

There have been many software updates for shift improvements.Fluid quality will also have an affect on shudders

The trans will not downshift (on a coastdown) until you've slowed down quite a bit. Is your "shudder" right when you release the throttle? If so, I doubt it's trans-related. If it occurs later (when the trans actually downshifts), which particular shift is it? I believe that from 4th gear it will downshift 4-3-1 as you come to a stop. From 5th gear, 5-3-1. From 6th gear, I don't recall offhand whether it's 6-5-3-1 or 6-4-3-1.
