Well after all the fanfare and hoopla and not getting answers from the competitor, I had the opportunity to try out a PE EZ this weekend for the first tow with the ETH. I put on a little over 900 miles and ffom my perspective this unit has to be defective. I pulled the first 200 miles with out the EZ connected. Thought the stock ETH handled the 5ver quite well, especially as windy as it was. I topped off the tank and calculated the fuel mileage and came out just over 12 mpg. Not bad for only 5k on the truck. I then connected the EZ without the elbow. Could tell the difference as soon as I took off; but smoke (black) and EGT skyrocketed 1250 degrees pulling a moderate grade for WI and engine sounded rough running to me. Pulling from about 1600 rpm up to 2000 rpms the truck would buck with the 5ver on it. Fuel mileage dropped to 9 mpg. Same road conditions. My empty fuel mileage also dropped by alittle over 2 mpg. Decided that maybe EGT were causing some of problem, also disconnected and reconncted EZ connections and installed the elbow. Pulled 5ver back the first 200 miles. EGT's never over 850 degrees, boost would reach 30+ psi (only have 30 lb gauge), but truck would buck from about 1600 to about 2000 rpm in 6th gear. By buck I mean almost like a gasser with a carb out of adjustment, or an ignition miss. Never noticed in 1st thru 5th gear. Or when empty. Well to say the least at my next fuel stop I disconnect the EZ, put back stock elbow and came rest of the way home stock and the truck ran purrrfecto. Got home late tonight so I couldn't call out to Utah and I am in NYC the rest of the week.
The box is set in position 3 from Utah.
Connected and re-connected the electrical connections several times.
Any other suggestions?

You are lugging the engine at 1600 - 2000 in od with that fueling. Change the setting to 2 or 1 and see what it does.

I personally do not tow with a box. I have an EZ and a VA. My egt's with the boxes are too high to quick. I have the same power ( hp ) upgrade with injectors and have egt's that will not cause my turbo to sieze up due to aluminum, formerly pistons, plugging it up.

I'd send the EZ back and get another one. That is not a normal scenario with the EZ. I just came back from a 1000 mile round trip towing 10,000 lbs through the mountains between AZ and Utah, and with the EZ on #3 and DD2's, it performed PERFECTLY! The EGT's would get up to 1200F, but that was when going up a grade, and the motor slowing to 1700 RPM's. Once I downshifted to 3rd, the EGT's came back to 900.
Just don't lug the motor under 1700 RPM's. The results could be disasterous.

BOB, your right, I should of kept the VA, but due to dis-information by BD I sold it. Should of kept the "99!"

JNUTTER: 1600 - 1900 rpm is not lugging the engine as the "99" pulled this 5ver in OD with no problems at all. Peak torque is just starting at 1600 per the specs.

TIMD: Have not checked fuel pressure yet, when I get back that is a priority as well as contacting EDGE

Timd's right. Check your fuel pressure! That is what my blue box did until I "de-banjoed" my entire truck. Now the blue box that I've bashed so many times will HAUL.

I used my EZ for several months without the EZ without any problems. And that was before I installed the Psychotty and the 4" exhaust.

The difference with and without was very noticeable... carrying my Lance 1030 camper and towing my car on the trailer (GCWR of 19k), up a 6% grade, there was easily a 10 mph difference. EGTs were fine. I kept the engine at or above 2000 RPMs on the climb, and things were fine. I did see EGTs ONCE hit 1300 deg. right as I reached the top of the grade, but that was also with my old ISSPRO guage. With my SPAs, I never saw more than 12xx.

Now I have the DD version of the EZ and DD3s. Once I get my cluch done on Thursday, and the HX-40 installed tomorrow, I'll get to climb the same grade again with the same load on Friday. I'm eager to see how that works out. #ad

Rob, who are you getting your HX-40 from? If it other than DD (where I got mine) would you mind posting how the wastegate is configured and how your down pipe fits? Thanks #ad
