I just got back from Terre Haute, IN -- Picking up a set of HPCR injectors

I actually bought these on ebay (dont laugh)... And seller claims they are 120hp ex-honed injectors.

They are 5-hole, and he said 14 thou's on the size. (compared to the 8-hole set I also have which you can bearly even see the holes)

The problem is I am just a little confused on what difference it makes between an 8 hole and a 5 hole... Obviously the 5-holes are larger, but is it worse atomization?

Not to mention neither set has numbers that make ANY sense on them, No mopar part#'s, nothing I can tell

He said the the people that do schieds injectors did this set.

Anyway, here are some pics:

Can you find a lazer cut number on the injector tip body?

If not, then its probably an aftermarket tip.

Looking at your picture closely it looks like the holes are also in different areas of the tip.

On another note:

Dude those holes are huge. No way I would run them in my truck. :--)

But tell us how they run when you get them in!! :-laf

typically the less holes the more restriction and the higher the pressure more pressure= more atomization, but less volume-within a givin flow rate!! :-laf

haha,

1) your crazy if you think I'm going to attempt to put them in my truck

2) your more crazy if you think I am going to put them in without talking to schieds and seeing who really did these tips.

My plan is to find a set of stockers or get a st of FLUX Don M. tips...

I mean how do I know these tips are not the wrong angle, etc, etc? Heck the truck there in went thru 2 engines and that guys is putting stockers back in, Before you say anything though, Let me tell you the truck was triple chipped (tst,Ez, BDDL), AND had the stock turbo. WELL DUH! I bet that EGT gauge was faster than the tach!!

I will look for some lazer eching in the tip. . My guess is that they are new tips, not re-done stocker (did they make stock tips that had only 5 holes ?!?)

anyway, I have a call into Bob wagner so I can talk to DON M, and I left a message for John at floor-it. Maybe he is crazy enough to run this big of a stick... . ;)

to be honest, I have seen another set of injectors for a commonrail truck that were large enough to see like the ones you have in the picture. The truck smoked at idle and wouldn't build boost

as far as injectors are concerned, bigger is not always better, your truck should be tuned to your set up and uses, it makes a huge difference. ! :-laf

If I did my math right, the 3rd gen holes are about 2 thou, maybe 3 thou honed.

Those should flow 5/8 x 49 = 30 times more fuel than stock

So you will make about 9,000 HP. :-laf Find a locomotive for those.

I honestly dont know what the actual size is, BUT MAN! when compared to the other stockers I have, These are stupid big...

Too much I dont know to trust using them.....

Sooooooo... ..... anyone looking for some tips to get stupid with? ;)

I measured just above 2 thousandths on 3rd gen holes. The second gen I believe were about 9, and maybe that's where he got the idea to hone them to 14. With the high pressure pump, not only will you flow too much, but the CP3 cannot maintain pressure, and it sets a code. Our injectors have a fluid actuated internal shuttle (servo) valve, so they may not even want to close properly due to the huge opening.

When I received my injectors back from Don M I had to look very close to even see the holes.

For a first time install of 3rd gen injectors you better have your lunch and supper with you. My first install took about 9 hours from start to truck running.

In other words BUYER BEWARE. :-{}

You got it, The funny part was when I told the dude I was going to trash the tips and get FLUX ones, he was like :--) - I spent like $1200 on those tips!

Uhhh. . yeah? and you got 2 blown engines dor it. I'll stick with tips that people have used and are for sure safe.

Hey Tim:

Yea I'm finally getting to spend some time at home. I installed injectors and ARP studs several weeks ago and in the process of installing a FASS 150gph system with 1/2" pickup in tank(thanks Tomeygun). The ceramic coating on my exhaust manifold, hot pipe and turbine housings should be finished next week, so I'm adding a little HP.

I'm trying to figure out how to talk Tomeygun out of those new injectors he just bought.

Terry

If those are schied injectors they will have ingraving on the body up close to the hold down plate if they don't i would have my dawts

14 thousanths!!! :--) Way too big. Can you say blowtorch?

1 or 2 thousanths is also out of the ballpark on the low side.

Thousanths isn't nearly a precise enough unit to measure these holes. Microns is better.

one thousanth is ~39 microns. Just to give an idea of the range we are talking, stock '03-'04 are less than 200 microns in diameter (8 holes). Stock '04. 5+ are less than 300 microns (5 holes). Both of which are a LOT less than 14 thousanths.
