I just received mine from Geno's. I must admit, I'm quite dissapointed. This is advertised as a "replacement" yet you must either hack up your factory cover or spend another 35 bucks for a sacrificial cover to hack up. As I understand it this piece is manufactured by Autometer? It is being misrepresented to say the least. The word "replacement" should be dropped from the advertising because it does not replace but rather just covers the original. Also the finish is nowhere close to the finish of the factory part. Autometer needs to go back to the drawing board on this one.

I know what you mean George. Why they don't make a full replacement, meaning pop out the OE A-Pillar and pop in a new one. It would make life so much easier. You have to cut you OE pillar for the wires to go thru. Mine was totally butchered when I was done running the wiring. If I was ever to sell the truck, I'd need to go to the dealer and get a new Blue Agate A-Pillar. Thankfully they are inexpensive.

This is a confusing subject, There were supposed to be FULL PILLAR replacement's meaning remove the OE one and install the aftermarket. All it would need is that small strip at the bottom. A few different companies were supposed to be making them. I don't know what ever happened.

I agree, Advertising a Full Pillar replacement can be misleading.

I installed mine today. Had to completly cut the molded speaker part from the pillar which left it very weak. Now the lowest gauge reflects th rear window and is almost impossible to read and very distracting to watch out the windshield by looking at the gauge. Tried scotch tape but was too frosted and coul not read the gauge.

Is the one you got from Geno,s a #17201 Autometer?Just wondering.
If it is, I won't be getting it because I really don't want to hack up my good A pillar. I am looking for I guess what would be called a Full Pillar "No butcher replacement" #ad

Guys,
Go here https://www.turbodieselregister.com/ubb//Forum3/HTML/002848.html
and have a look for my feedback if you'd like. I just completed this exercise.

All in all it is better than what I used to have, but it is not a mature product in my opinion.

Mike

I don't have the catalog here at my shop but i'm sure that's the one. The jury is still out on this one. I have always prided myself at being able to figure things out that the manufacturer can't. I was looking a little closer at this thing this morning. I think I have a way of mounting it that won't requirer cutting into the stock cover at all. I'm waiting on my fuel pressure gauge to show up from XK's in California. I was hoping to have it for this weekend. Then again more snow is on it's way for Sunday so I probably won't get time to do my gauge installs anyhow. More later!

We at Geno's Garage would like to clarify an ongoing question regarding this Autometer product.

If installed using the Autometer instructions, it is NOT a replacement; rather, it is a cover.

When the product is shipped from Geno's Garage, we include a supplemental set of instructions showing the customer how it can be used as a REPLACEMENT. The customer can then choose which installation best suits their needs.

Since there is controversy over our use of the word "replacement," we will update all of our materials, deleting the word, "replacement. "

However, if any of you would like a copy of our supplemental instructions (regardless of where you purchased the product), please e-mail us at sales@genosgarage.com. We're happy to e-mail you with a copy of that document. We have done several installations using this product as a replacement and it has worked very well.

I installed my triple with tweeter a few weeks ago from Geno's. I replaced mine. The stock one is left untouched in my store room. The reason that there aren't any clip in ones is the gauges are right where the clips need to be.

The guys at Genos emailed me a word . doc of their instructions on how to replace it, and other than an argument with the tap and screw, it went pretty well. Looks great. I don't notice the screw and I haven't even painted it to match yet (the screw, the cover is painted nicely).

The only thing I had to modify at all is the tweeter grille. I used a knife to shave a little off of one side so it would fit in the new hole better. Without trimming, it wouldn't clip all the way in and would rattle.

Dave,

Not trying to start an argument here, but there actually is room to mount the top and bottom clips. The only place that the clip can not be mounted is in the middle.

Hey gang,
I just had Robin email me a set of the supplimental instructions. They clear up the installation problem. I asked Robin to post them here for everyone to read. I'm sure she'll do so shortly.
