how much of an incr should one expect if they upgrade it to a 62?



and how do you think this unit would work for towing? (w the 12)

I don'y know who "they" are... ... ... but I was told by HTT the HX-35 Fat 60mm Hi-Flow Compressor w/16cm housing would support that HP you quoted. I bought one. It don't work w/an empty truck, let alone if I hauled heavy in Virginia.



Be careful what the HP rate they quote you a turbo will support. How do they know... ... ... ... ... ... ... ..... ??????????? Too many variables. Too many.

I would have to say "yes" as I'm currently sanding the roof of a school bus to prep for paint. (I use a d. a. Dual Action Sander ) If your refering to the exhaust fumes inside the garage as some seem to believe , then no. The doors are open.

da stands for density altitude



at least it does when you are referring to performance numbers



you can be standing at an elevation of 500' above sea level but if the temp or the humidity is high the da can be way higher than 500'



same holds true with the bar press - if it is low the da will be higher



my truck typ see's da's in the range from 1000-3000'



i was wondering if you were maybe in the mountains, but da says it all, does not matter if you are on flat ground or on a 5k' hill

On the tractor pulling scene, I'd often watch guys with the 4,5 Keith Blacks or a couple of Allison V1710's while they would toy with their fuel injection and air/fuel ratio per air density. They adjusted the orfice size JUST prior to the pull (elevation/baro pressure etc. ) We, as diesel tractor drivers, just scratched our heads. I don't know much about the fuel injection rate vrs air density ratio, other than what they told me... ... ... If an engine makes 1,700 HP and multiply that by say four or five units, then the fuel ratio per air density at the time of pull would be an issue..... so I'm told.

not as bad as a naturally asperated motor, but it still affects performance



i was wondering if that mighta been why that turbo you were talking about couldnt burn the fuel...

I think part of the reason 1stGens run out of air at 350hp with a turbo that will support 400hp in a 2ndGen is that our intercoolers and systems are so much smaller, with more restrictive piping and smaller cooler. I am going to put a 2ndGen IC on my 92 this weekend (hopefully), and will report back on changes. I know, I have a wastegated IC, but the bigger one should be an improvement going from a good stock IC.

Kinda a pain is relative. Some would consider buying a $800 truck then putting $4K in it a pain. I call it customizing on the cheap :-laf

I am the first person to save a buck but since I can't build turbo's I had to bite the bullet for an s300 and I have never regreted it. My 90 had the stock 50mm h1c with the banks intercooler kit and 2. 5 inch ic tubes. I ran a 14cm non gated housing. With the fuel maxed it made 301 HP but would peg the pyro at 1500 in a hurry with no load. I bought the 62/12 s300 and wow what a diffenence. I had to tune the afc for a little more fuel to get it spinning but it lights fast. It's a tad slower than the baby h1c with the 14 but it's way faster then it was with the 18cm. It hits the wastegate at 40 psi. When I had 40in tires 3. 54gears I could hold it to the floor from 65 to 100mph and the pyro whould not quite hit 1000 deg. I havent checked it since I went back to 35's but It's probobly even less. It made 319hp with the same setup as the old turbo made 301 and lost more than 500 degrees egt's. 319 HP at 1000deg I think means there is quite a bit of room to grow. That's my recomendation for sure, it's expensive but the numbers speak for themselves. As far as 3 in ic tubes go, the outlet of the turbo is only like 2in so anything over that seems overkill. My 96 has 3in tubes with a lot bigger IC and even with the p-pump up around 280HP on the hx35-12 the spoolup is slower than the 62 on my 90. I think it's because it has that much more space to presurize. Just somthing to think about. Good luck with the decision.

i guess that henry guy at piers did a good job on this pump then, cuz when i got the truck it came with a dyno sheet. bob had it dynoed somewhere in reno nv, i think. anyway, it shows 325 rwhp. dont know if that was corrected or what? but the thing must be fueling pretty good. it doesnt bellow black smoke like the new ones that are chipped but it smokes pretty good right now, until boost kicks in, which isnt long



i bet that s300 will drop h2o temps as well...

This winter I'm planning on using my SP66-14 as a top charger over a s400. I think any s300 based charger will work well in a twin app.

bottom line is that for what i do 99% of the time, i am about maxed out



if i try to get more power i am gonna get more heat and i dont think it can stand it



if i use a s300 he said i will sufer when trying to tow 65 mph @ 1800



even if i drop it to 4th over (1900) he said the r's are just too low and i wont be on the charger



he is building me a dodgezilla and sending me a stg-II water meth kit with it



says i may lose a couple of pounds of boost at wot but it should still tow good on flat ground and should stay cooler while pulling the grades

i know i would like either of those better when i am not towing. problem is, i am almost always towing, and the trailer is heavier than these small trucks should have to drag around and i still want this thing to get some sort of mileage







bottom line is there are so many turbos out there and i have no personal experience with any of them. so, i just had to go to a proffesional, give him as much info as i could, and hope he makes the best choice for me.



the only thing that concerns me is that after i gave brad all the details i could, and answered all his questions, he said to me, "so i take it you are a lite foot driver?"



i have ALWAYS been considered a lead foot driver!



it took me 2 years to learn how to drive this diesel truck, and yes, when towing i drive with a lite foot. you have to when you are going 1000 miles or this thing will drink a bunch of fuel



bob simerly has not had the pleasure of riding in this thing (his old truck) after installing the suspension, taller tires, and the spliter, but i think he would be proud of the way i have this truck working now (it was a beast with the 4. 11s, 29" tall tires, and riding on the bump stops!) and i think he would be pround of the way i drive it too (he drove truck for a living)

Not trying to take anything away from brad but I'm at the same power level with the 62-12 and it is lit faster then the stocker. Don't go with the 64 or 66 or a 14cm housing because you won't need them but you would be very happy with the 62-12 I will also be using it as a top over a s400 soon. Get on the towing and 12 valve forums and research witch turbos they like. Stay away from 24 valve advice because the have a differnt power band and spool turbo's better.

i called brad and his turbo guy just came back to work today (he had cut his hand really bad). so, that 35/40 is still not done. i took that as a possible sign (lol... anything for a excuse to go bigger, right?). he says he doesnt care which way i go and that he will put it on the shelf when dude finishes it. i have received a lot of pms about this topic and to be honest i was pretty confused. (maybe i still am). i understand it is about preference and everything is a compromise. i dont want to have to buy a turbo twice. i was looking at a htt 62/12 or a super fhat shaft 62. which of those two would you pick?
