Competition Traction Bars... best setup?

Competition Snow Stage 3 questions

Don't you want to keep the littlest stage to benefit from compounding the air charge 3 times. I agree, spool up is not an issue with a competition puller.....

... . but boost is. Were talking air density here, not lag.

150 psi. Well, it is what it is.

If spool up is not a concern, you try to get away with the biggest small charger you can as to not heat the air any more then you have to. correct?

You still are taking a big straw and sizing it down to a little staw with more PSI to re-compress. You'll get more CFM outa a bigger "small" charger.

Am I on the right track here with the "big" set of twins vs a tripple set with a stocker on the hot side?

150 psi shouldn't be a big deal for just two stages of compression, though. If you run each stage at 40 psi, this gives each stage a pressure ratio of 3. 72:1. So when working together, you get a 13. 85:1 pressure ratio after the second stage of compression, which is equivalent to 188 psi boost. The large pulling turbos are typically more efficient at higher PR's than we're used to, as well, though, so most guys with the big twin pulling setups drive the primary turbo harder than the secondary. Much more than street twin turbo guys are used to seeing.

The only advantage of triples in sub-175-psi-or-so setups that I can think of offhand is spoolup (well, coolness factor too I guess :)). With the extra complication of the piping, the additional tuning required, the extra expense, and the extra weight, it's an easier and better option for most pullers to just turn the wick up a little more on a two-stage setup and dump more water into the system. We still aren't running 300 psi like the tractors, either - when we get to that point, we'll need either more efficient turbos (though these have improved a lot over the last few years) or triple setups will become more common (more likely). JMO.
