Andrew,

Still looks like a discussion to me...

And I don't want to see the sled pulls halted.

I guess my biggest concern is that the younger people watching these pulls will think it's Ok to blow major smoke on the road. And it's not OK in my book, CARB watching or not.

Ron W.

Ron,

I understand completly where your coming from.

Like I said, I didn't want anyone to start pointing fingers, which they might easily have done after a few posts. Sometimes these threads get off topic slowly, and never look back. :)

Andrew

Andrew, I think I'm flattered. I've never been quoted so often in my life. On top of that, I'm really glad that everyone involved in this thread has kept a good attitude and not lost sight of the problem that you brought to our attention. Thanks for the "heads-up". No, I can't make it to the meeting in CA. But I sincerely wish I could! My main motto in my life has always been, "Question authority!". I would like to ask you a question about your interest in this topic. And that is, are you a competitor, a fan, or just the kind of guy that spots injustice and tries to eliminate it? All 3 are good, IMO. Me, I've never been to a sled pull or a mudder race in my life. I prefer watching the top fuelers trying to go 300+ in 4 seconds. But, racing is racing, and I've got to support the right for it to exist. I'm getting a copy of the petition, thanks to the info you posted and I somehow didn't notice. Again, thanks for the "heads-up".

Dave

Dave,

I have several reasons for getting intrested in this. First of all I love to watch these diesel trucks pull the sled, and go down the 1/4. Sure the smoke is for show in many cases, but it's still fun so long as it's not reckless. Another reason is that I'm intrested in this is that I don't want this to stem over into where we have already taken the industry. If that happens then all these mods will have to be undone to pass tests and what not. Also, as rude as it might be, I feel that I have a right to bellow out smoke if I please, even though I don't really, just what I feel like I have a right to do so (just like they have a right to wine and take action about it).

There are others, but it's late, ;)

Andrew

Andrew, I'm with you, and I'll support any fans' right to watch their favorite form of racing. I applaud your efforts to seek out injustice and actually try to do something about it. Anyone that goes to ANY form of motor racing and complains about the smoke is in the wrong place. They should go to a nice clean baseball game instead. My own truck doesn't produce lots of smoke because it isn't overfueled. This entire thread is about CARB shutting down competitive events, held in legal and sanctioned venues, due to what 'they' say are basically, air pollution violations. Maybe they will succeed, maybe they won't. Either way, the actions they are/have taken, and the way the environmental wind is blowing, should be a warning to us, as diesel operators. I'm a 'hotshot' driver, and an owner/operator. I drive my diesel truck for my living, and I already have enough rules and regulations to comply with, I don't need any more. Andrew, carry on with gusto, and luck be with you.

the TMS is right off the highway... a bunch of 700hp carbureted gassers w/ no cats running around in a circle, but you're not allowed to run one on the highway right next to it??

well, unless it's an old car of course... then it doesn't matter.

Forrest

as for the gasoline engines, i don't care for them at all so i want them all banned;)

but for the diesels with their heavy black smoke emissions, it is a heavy particle, and will settle down to earth. and be absorbed eventually by the ground. now as long as you don't eat the dirt on the ground, you are fine once it has settled. for street use heavy smokers isn't necessary. there is technology to limit smoke. egr's cause smoke [my opinion]. the technology is here... VG turbos, variable cam timing or ditch the cams completely for hydraulically actuated valves, exchangeable cat type after treatment in large high flow exhaust [quick bolt in item, to be changed out for fresh, cleaned one at an oilchange - old one sent out to be "baked" clean]

Maybe the officials of California will have to move all the AIRPORTS down in to MEXICO, to help prevent the fall out from all the over-head flying debris. (Exhaust PPM's). And garbage.

Or start a new regulation that everyone ride Bicycles three out of five days to work, to stop the pollution. I think the only good thing that ever came out of the state was GOLD anyway. The people are GREAT though.

just my humble opinion, for what its worth.

One other thing, we are being taken over by the E. L. F. So watch out for them. They torched a lumber yard in the southwest part of the Salt Lake valley, caused couple million dollar lose, they said because there fork lifts gave out to much smoke so they burned it. they are responsible for a couple other stupid things also that they burned. the authorities don't have any leads yet. so watch your back.

Marv.

They used to be!

I didn't know the Salt Lake Valley was in Kalifornia either:-{}

If I had a terrorist group I would think of a cooler name than the ELF. Sounds like a SNL skit:)

my bad, I figured it happened in California! there or Oregon or something... (I just skimmed)

IF something like that happened in TX, there'd be a bunch of dead elf's laying around ;) :D

Forrest

Problem is, they have taken responsibility for this act, and on one knows who, or what they are. But every one is on guard for these idiots. They (the law) are keeping an eye out. I look for them to strike a huge construction site that is in process now in the south west section of the valley. (there goes some more sage brush).

Marv.

P. S.

But the Calif situation sucks. The state is the loser here.

If the people of CA were so great, they either 1) would change the idiocy in the state, or 2) would never have let it gone that far.

I tend not to respect anyone from California. They have fostered illegal immigration because many people view certain work as "beneath" them. They are responsible for a lot of radical crazy ideologies:

-- Animal "rights"

-- gay "marriage"

-- environmentalism

Californians have been content to sacrifice the good of their state (and themselves, in the long term) in favor of empty rhetoric, NIMBY, and class-warfare.

Justin

Ditto on Ron Weiss. I've preached that very thing on the smoke stories thread.

GIT-R-DONE,

The "convoy" I was in yesterday, all hauling trailers smoked the crap out of every little town they went through, just west of you, laughing like retards when they did it.

They do it all the time, my pleas of smoke softly until you hit the track, have fell on deaf ears.

A minority will definately ruin this for all of us, a blind man can see it coming.

Smoke wisely, grasshoppers!

Ah yes... ... ... Yet another individual too foolish and wrapped up in his own little world to really know what's going on. You're right Justin all of us gay immigrants are down here trying to save the environment for our animals.

Get used to the legislation at hand- with attitudes like yours its only bound to get worse. Trend setters- it starts here and will spread elsewhere.

Kev

stat's are that only about 10-15% are native Kalifornians here . . where did the rest of them come from HUMMMMM ... YOUR STATE. . now WE have to leave OUR state to get back to a decent life :(

so ya better be aware that it [CARB... Calif Air Resourses Board] type of thing will hppen to you also !!!

I don't thnk we have to do any bashing of people, just because someone lives in a particular location, no matter where it is, so I have closed this thread!
