I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread that people can look at to see what issues others have had with their STOCK 3rd Gen's. I say this as you never know what modifications will do to a truck. So lets hear about any and all problems that you have had. So far on my 05 I have had none, but then again it only has 4k. However I did get that 05 as a result of D. C. buying back my 04 because of the dreaded 70mph vibe issue. Other than that the 04 was a good truck. But it only had 22K on it.

My 05, no power, poor mpg, anti-spin should be called will spin, trans goes to free wheeling below 45 mph ( slowing down, when it hits 45, the trans disengages and you can actually pick up speed if you are going down hill) , and having trouble getting a dealer that will think outside the box to try and fix.

With about 14000 miles on my 05 thus far, the only issue I have is the door seals getting torn up on the front. There is a TSB out for it, but I simply haven't had the time to go get it fixed, since at this time it doesn't appear to be a major issue.

Luckily there's no vibrations at any speed range from 0 to ~100 mph (don't ask how I know that), and it's finally starting to loosen up a little bit, which is good.

I'm not experiencing the low MPG issue either, averaging 17-18 in mixed city/highway/county back roads driving. I suspect I could just about hit 20mpg if I were to be able to run on the highway between 60 and 70, but I've never been able to prove that since I can't drive that slow. On a recent trip with some stop and go driving but mostly expressway (empty one way and flat towing a 98 Durango the other way) I ended up with a tank of 16. 8mpg. On the way back (while towing) I was only travelling between 60 and 65 however. Seems reasonable for pulling around that much dead weight I think.

1) Had to have the A/C serviced twice. The last time they put dye in to help determine if there is is a leak.

2) The graphic on my shifter has rotated about 270°.

1) Factory alarm doesn't work.

2) Headlight switch doesn't always switch off headlights. I have to be sure to check when leaving the vehicle. And if they're still on, I work the switch again and they go off.

3) Sheet metal -- door skins in particular -- is tissue paper thin. Dented one very easily with my knee while standing on the step bar while washing the roof.

I need to get it into the dealer for #1 and #2.

Otherwise, it's been a great truck. Really great!

winston, are you turning the lights off before you shut the truck off? if you turn the truck off before the lights they are designed to stay on for a couple of minutes as a safety feature(lights the way to the house) even if you do leave the lights on, after 10 min. the computer will turn them off to keep from killing the battery. I know all this because I have done it on occasion.

29000 miles... ac condensor, weird trans stuff (my truck is an EARLY 03 with a 47re and the lo power (235hp) cali engine)... left rear axle seal ... other than that great truck!

I pull into the driveway. Engine running. Turn off lights. Shut down. Get out and lights are still on. Happens about 1 out of 3 times.

In 27,xxx miles.

1. horn gremlin

2. torn door seal

3. leaky clearance lights (fixed when I put on the clear recon lights)

4. 4-pin trailer light harness shorted out. made the headlights come on when I pressed the brake.

All pretty minor stuff, other than that I still am pleased with this truck.

OK I wasn't sure you knew about the light thing, it took me a year to figure it out. but you do and do have a problem. Sorry, just trying to help

72k not one problem with truck and stock tires got another 10k to go and the brake pads are only half way. this is the best truck ive ever owned

Lamp out= burned circuit board (replaced by dealer 25,000 miles)

High pressure pump or cp3 leak (replaced by dealer at 44,000 miles)

Valve cover gasket leak (24,000 miles)

Other than that she runs great.

I think some things are problems and others are observations.

Problems:

-- Driveline Slack.

-- Clutch Pedal Vibration (1900 - 2100 rpm).

-- A/C very slow to cool down in hot weather.

Observations:

-- A/C passenger side warmer until A/C has fully cooled off.

-- High Beam (blue) light on dash flickers ever so slightly at night on low beam.

-- Get 16. 2 mpg (hand calc / 16. 4 overhead) CITY w/the 6 speed.

-- Shifter extremely notchy.

-- Intermittant buzzing in right rear passenger door.
