Where to camp in Ruidoso, NM

Jack

i have 95 1 ton dually that i haul a 20 ft car trailer with and want to get a 10 ft truck camper . what can i do to haul it extend frame? extend hitch ? any one do this ? any idea would be great.

yhanks in advance

I've seen some custom trailers built with longer tongues on them. This lets you hook to the stock hitch and still be able to turn. I have a Reese TItan with a 48" extender. It's ok for what I tow, a little single axle trailer with camping stuff. I've even towed a tandem axle car trailer with just a 4 wheeler and dirtbike on it. The extender is kind of frightening to watch, it does sway quite a bit going over bumps. I wouldn't trust it to haul a car with for sure. It says a max tongue weight of 1000 lbs, I put maybe 500 on it and it's at its limit in my book.

I think a custom trailer is the way to go, a bit spendy, but SAFE!

We have towed all over the western US with an extended hitch. I replaced the stock hitch with a heavier duty unit, the best I could buy, then I made an extension 24" long out of 2" solid steel with the ball mounted on the end. Towed a 3 horse slant load trailer with 2 horses in it, and also towed our car trailer with our Jeep on it through Colorado several times. Always with no sway or sag, and straight as an arrow. Our camper was an Elkhorn 9-1/2' with a slide out, so it was a heavy camper, too. Did it this way with F350 Fords, one a single rear wheel, the other a dually, both diesels. I reccomend the dually. Good luck.
