Bad Fuel???

What's it worth???

They are out to get me! Thursday morning i had a doe come out in front of me, i locked the tires and flat spotted the fronts pretty bad,and since i had a road-trip planned for saturday morning i just put the stock wheels and tires back on,no problem right?Saturday morning about a mile from the house ,another doe comes out after me, i locked the brakes, flat spot these tires too, and hit the b#%*^ anyway. Luckaly the only damage was a broken plastic clip on the gray bumper cover. :--) :--)

I almost missed one about three years ago. Hind leg hit bumper and hoves kicked out headlight. $1500 damage!!:{

no faith in them here... . I think they just scare them into your path LOL

sure a ton of them on the move here. . don't know why, feed is good this year at the higher elevations. . the local herds are not doing much moving...

had one run in between me and the car I was following on the way home from work on Friday ( about 4 car lengths) definitely got my attention.

big jake

There are a lot of yearlings out this time of year that have just been dumped out of the nest due to the old doe having another. It takes them a few months to wisen up.

The little bumper mounted dohickies fix the deer in position which is ok if they are not in the middle of the road. I have heard people say that if they are in the middle of road you should aim right at them and you will never hit one. I have not tried this yet. I am sure I will have opportunity. I am veteran(?) of six deer collisions.

Usually hitting a deer is a bad thing but I had one occasion quite a few years ago where there was some humor in it. After a really bad day of hunting and not seeing anything, my hunting buddy (and friend) decided he was going to drive around in a highly deer populated area and try to hit one with his station wagon. What they heck, I'd never been with anyone who WANTED to hit a deer so I went along for the ride. Of course, when a large buck did finally jump out in front of us from seemingly nowhere, my friend instinctively slammed on the brakes and missed it. But the car coming the other way wasn't so lucky; she got it. So my friend got his fresh road kill deer without actually having to hit it himself.

And in a related story, riding with another friend after a long night of being idiots, we drove right through a herd of deer standing on the highway. We were going about 60 mph and he just laid into the horn and locked them all in place. Maybe we should have tried to slow down but, like I said, we were having a full night of idiocy.

Boy am I glad I don't do these things anymore.

Almost got one (or more) of four deer in Montana a few months ago. Came around a bend on the interstate at 75 MPH towing and saw three in my (right) lane and one on the left shoulder. Moved to the left lane and hit the brakes. Sure enough, the one on the shoulder walked right in front of me. Fortunately, the truck stopped short of them all.

Next time, they'll face a different bumper!:--)

I am convinced...

my '92 Ram 3500 is jinxed. It was a daily driver for 7 years and I hit 3 different dear in 3 different years. I averaged a dear every other year with that truck. :p My '99 has missed them all so far... Ranch hand equipped for just such an occassion. :D I did have one dear run between me an a car that was tailgating me last week... the car following me was about 1 car length behind me and we were trucking at 70mph. Just got real, real lucky. :)

I was guilty of doing similar things earlier in life.

I met with a HUGE doe back in October. I flat-spotted my rear tires and still caught it with my front replacement bumper. That bugger wrecked my headlight bucket!! That was the only damage..... except to my heart. I think I had a mild heart attack when that thing ran out in front of me at midnight near a $&#*@ airport!..... scared the crap out of me.

The little do-hickie on the front of my truck keeps me from getting any damage from the deer around Texas. Faith in it keeps from getting flat spots on my tires too. It's marketed under the name RANCHHAND:D :D Don't swerve or slam on the brakes but don't try to go in the ditch either. HOGS are the worst... :--)

That's an incredible photo amsoilman. Have you entered it in any kind of contest or at least gotten it in the paper? Reminds me of the lady in Texas who is on trial for hitting a guy. Sounds like he went through the windshield just like your deer did. She was all screwed up on drugs and booze and just pulled into her garage and let the poor guy die. Unbelieveable!!

I hit a deer a couple of years ago. Had to replace my bumper at about $1200. If I lived in an area where the risk was consistently high, I'd probably invest in a heavier bumper and grill guard.

Now if I could only find them during hunting season!!

I really have been very lucky as i have only had two deer run-ins in 18 years of liveing out in the country like i do. The first one was about 10 years ago when a young buck ran into my old 79 half ton. He hit me between the cab and bed and it just spun him down the road unhurt.
