While going up the driveway the other night my truck began to accelerate all by it's self, went to 2000 rpm or so and I slapped the peddle and it died. Tried to restart with out any luck so I thought I would read the codes and for some reason it would only display the mileage after 3 keys. I tried this several times with no luck. After a few minuets, I thought I’d try to start it again before I get something to tow it the rest of the way up and it started like normal. When I got to the house, I checked codes again and this time it worked got a P1691. Any ideas as to why I couldn't read codes, would only display miles, after it died? I have been reading some of the ecu postings and kinda leaning that way, expensive way to trouble shoot. I know it could also be the VP44, it's the origianal with 309,000 on it.

My 02 H. 0. did similar last year, turned out to be a short in one of the battery's even though the overall reading was 12v one only had 8v by itself.
