All of a sudden about 2 weeks ago my truck started to die when I put it into gear. Here's the whole story. I started modifing my truck just over a year ago. All in one shot I installed a Comp Box, BD XXX injectors, Suncoast convertor (don't know the model #:{ ), BD valve body, AFE, exhaust, and a 7psi pusher pump. Truck was awesome for about a month and then it started to die when I would put it in DRIVE. I needed to drive it so I worked with it, well about a week later I forgot about the whole issue and went to put it in DRIVE one morning and it took me a minute to realize that I didn't have to do anything to keep it from dying. After that it would NEVER die going into gear, although it still engaged hard due to the convertor. Truck was great up until 2 weeks ago. It started to do the same thing, it would die when I would put it into gear, mainly only in DRIVE sometimes in REVERSE.

Needless to say I'm baffled. I've changed transmission fluid, checked transmission pressures on passenger side port, disconnected my box, disconnected my pusher pump, changed injectors, and I nothing has helped.

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS? I've exhausted all of my options!!! :{

I don't live in cold weather climates. It's be 80+ degrees for the last month. Doesn't matter if the truck is hot or cold. Does it EVERYTIME!!!

My truck does the same thing. How tight of a converter do you have? I've seen the same thing happen to my truck after changing the converter, it stalls when selecting "D" or "R". Now I select "N" before I hit "D" or "R" and let it idle there for a few seconds while I release the PB and put on my seatbelt. Can't remember if I've had the truck stall since going to "N" first, if it has I don't remember it. I've been told the converter I have is pretty tight and is a low stall.

cul,

Casey

I don't exactly know how tight it is. Like I said I don't have the model #. I just know that it hits hard when it engages. It will still die if I let it idle in neutral for 2 minutes. I've tried that.

Bob, the weird thing about my truck is that it did this once before for about 2 weeks and then went away for a long time. Now it's back. Have any insight with why that is?

Also, when I engage into DRIVE with my foot on the throttle slightly (to keep it from dying) and then if I let it return to the idle position to fast after engagement it will also die. I have to let it return slowly.

Does Chrysler do that TSB for free?..... on a modified truck?... my year truck doesn't fall into that TSB, nor does my engine serial number. :(

Does the truck try to go and then die as in chirp the tires or is it stalling? My neighbor just had a brand new trans put in his chevy and the TC was bad i. e. locking up immediately, chirp the tires then stall the truck. They had to give him a new TC and that fixed the problem.

Just brain-storming... ...

It just dies. The thing that really gets me is it did it for 2 weeks about 8 months ago and not one time since and now it's doing it again. Can anyone explain that?

Spunky,

Denis' pickup has been doing it since he put his 3. 7's in. It's downright embarrasing when people know what your pickup is capable of, then you fire it up and go to leave and it dies right there! I took it up to Lithia in Klamath the other day to have Charlie do a flash on it... didn't help (Rip suggested the reflash). I did not however notice WHICH TSB he put on. I'll call him tomorrow and see. I do know that Denis told Charlie he wanted the "winter fuel" flash.

If you find an answer, let us know please. Denis' next plan is a new set of injectors from Don, and then an injection pump if that doesn't do it. And his works the same as yours... doesn't matter if it's hot or cold, left or right, it dies or at the very least stumbles horribly every time you try to put in in gear, forward OR reverse.

Josh,

Thanks for the info. Let me know what you find out... . espically what flash he had done. It's a little comforting knowing that someone else has the same problem and is working to find out what it is. I'll keep you posted if I find out anything. Thanks again

My truck did the same thing till I got the cold weather flash done and since then no problem. The only change I really noticed was it seemed to idle a little faster. I believe on the older 12 valves they just turn the idle up a little to get out of the same problem.

Seemed to be worse when it got hot outside. Like 80 degrees or better and worse the hotter it got.

Trying to resurrect this thread to see if there is any news. Last weekend i had a set of Mach2's installed and about 3 days after it started to die when going into gear. Please post anything you may have done to correct this problem. My ECM is completely up to date. and i have tried disconnecting battery for 20min.

I'm set up simular to you and this is my first winter with it like that. As soon as the winter grade diesel hit I started to die as well. I started to add Stanadyne to every tank since then and it helped out big time, still had a couple of stalls but nothing like before. From what I've read, big injectors + tight TQ= stall. I'm not sure if my truck has ever been flashed with the TSB that's supposed to address this issue, just never had time to check the ECM for the sticker they put on after it's been done.

Thanks, Im in So-Cal so im pretty sure we dont get "winter" fuel but i may be wrong. Ill pick up some Stanadyne and try that.

FWIW... the Stanadyne also made my engine run buttery smooth, took a lot of the clatter/chatter out of it. If nothing else atleast it'll sound better. :D

Oh great... . I am getting ready to install some 1. 5's and a new HX35 w/12cm turbo, Am I gonna have this problem also?

Just finished installing Dons Mach 2,s and truck is stalling putting it into any gear. I have never had problem with my DD 2,s stalling when putting in gear. I hope someone can figuer this out as this is a real pain in the but.
