My truck was on the rail car today finally

Just heard from Adam at Dishman Dodge and it shipped today after a long wait, now for a couple of more weeks. we wait.

Got a 07. 5 2500- auto- Laramie-white-extra cab

It would be interesting to see if they are all on the same railcar. My number is TTGX985444. According to Union Pacific, the car will be in IL Saturday night after leaving Texas today at about 4PM.

How does one go about seeking the rail car number ? What city & state do you live in, BBeck ?

This has me fired up ! :-laf

Mine is on railcar TTGX852694. It left Finley, TX at 1am but it does not list where it will be next. The long wait for it to arrive in Anchorage, AK. I know part of the trip will be by ship. Wonder what ETA Industry means?

I live in Washington State near Seattle.

Sky: looks like our trucks are on the same train, but different railcars.

I went to Union-Pacific's website and it is amazing to see how much traffic they do and the routes they go on.

Dawna: is the truck being delivered to Dishman Dodge or is it being drop shipped to an Alaska dealer? I think you mentioned it was being drop shipped. I'm guessing, but maybe it is referring to the fact that it will be changing carriers at some point and that is why it doesn't list the city.

I have checked the site several times since yesterday, and it changes all the time, with updates on the latest stop. It was supposed to arrive at the interchange in IL at 11PM on Saturday and now it is showing almost 6AM on Sunday. So keep checking and maybe it will provide more info as it gets closer to the 5/27 date.

Truck on the way

Just looked it up it left yesterday and will be in California on 5-22-07 at 1300 or so they say. mine left from St Louis sounds like most of your trucks are built in Mexico not mine. o well my 96 came from the same factory and never have had a single prob. with it in 130000 miles and 11 years.

Don't know about other states but in Ca. if you put a shell on it and leave it on you can register it as a car and save a couple of hundred a year on weight fees at the DMV. I am on railcar ttgx853137

The dealer you ordered from should be able to get you the train car number your truck is on. You can then follow its progress here UPRR-Motor Vehicle Equipment Trace

Thanks for the link and all of the help ! :-laf

It's rail car # TTGX 254148... ... . looks like it left at 09:39 05/18/07 from Laredo TX and is scheduled to be in IL 05/20/07 at 21:06 !

I might even get lucky and get it next week. :-laf

Guys,

I don't know if this is going to work or not. I ran all four of your Autoracks (rail car) numbers on the national system. Below should show each car number, last reported location, time of the update, that the car is loaded (the L), what the event was (departure or released from hold) train number (yes two are on the same train) and the destination of the rail car. The fifth car is the one that moved my 04. 5 from Saltilo to Buffalo, NY back in May of 2004. I very much enjoyed tracking my truck. I have watched out for this car off and on for the last three years and have yet to catch it. One day last fall it passed within a mile of my office and the truck it'self but I didn't catch it until it was too late.

I hope this is useful.

Just some heads up information on this UPRR tracking. It does appear to have some glitches at times as I experienced while I tracked my truck. There were times when it would list a location and time that it had already passed earlier and I doubt the train car went backwards. And then there are the several day layovers in a couple of locations along the way one of them being Laramie, Wy. There was another I believe somewhere in Missouri.

Good luck guys tracking your trucks :-laf... it is like being a kid at Christmas all over again. :D

The system is very good but not perfect. I track thousands of rail cars each year and somethings there are issues. Old data is a problem. In other words, it will report "departed Boone, Iowa" for hours (and sometimes days), miss several other reporting points and then pop up in say Chicago.

This can happen for a number of reasons. The system works by reading a magnetic tag on the side of the car. Sometimes the tag gets damaged or removed on one side of the car and thus, it will only be read when the scanners are on the side that still includes a working tag. Sometimes the message fails to uplink. However, I have traced cars that pased a location one minute before I did my update.

On the UP, cars going to the Pacific Northwest are likely to spend some time in North Platte, NB and Hinkle, OR.

JACummins2500:

Thanks for the additional info. It sure is interesting to watch. I assume the system doesn't give an eta, only where the railcar has passed and the final destination, correct? Are you registered and that is why you can see the additional detail? I thought about registering, but it didn't appear that I would qualify for one of the "roles" they had listed.

Brad,

I am registered on the UP and Association of American Railroad sites (as well as some others). You will get different data points from the different systems. The data I posted is from the AAR site.

Some will give an ETA, but they are pretty meaningless. They are nice to see as a guide, but don't count on them.
