Just some heads up information on this UPRR tracking. It does appear to have some glitches at times as I experienced while I tracked my truck. There were times when it would list a location and time that it had already passed earlier and I doubt the train car went backwards. And then there are the several day layovers in a couple of locations along the way one of them being Laramie, Wy. There was another I believe somewhere in Missouri.

Good luck guys tracking your trucks :-laf... it is like being a kid at Christmas all over again. :D

Hi TKeeler:

Did you ever see a code of "*Interchange Received", with a column called "Road" and the entry of "ALS" for location of VALJCT, IL? Did your truck continue on the UP line from IL?

Thanks,

Brad

The system is very good but not perfect.

John... .

In tracking mine, I see several "locations" that aren't on the road atlas I've used in watching the progress of my truck. Some are, I'm guessing, depot / yard abbreviations, such as JUNLAND, MO.

The estimated time of interchange city is VALJCT, IL which is, I assume, Centreville, but I can't find it either.

Any help ? Thanks in advance.

Brad, yes my truck passed thru Valley Jct, IL and continued on via UPRR.

Greg, my truck sat in Centreville, IL for two days before it moved on into Missouri. It took about 7 more days to get to Spokane.

Greg,

Our truck also spent some time at Valley Junction. A search on several of the internet mapping links(can't remember which), and some posts on railroad discussion sites finally had us finding Valley Junction, identified as a large railyard complex at the east edge of St. Louis in Illinois,... somewhat to the west of Troy, if I recall correctly, in a rough neighborhood, where you wouldn't want to be walking around :-0 , ... Just think East St. Louis.

Don't know why it is so hard to find inter-net info on VJ.

Thanks, Wolfy.

According to my dealer, my truck should leave the railyard and hop on a semi-truck from IL to KY as best I understand.

Greg,

Sorry I haven't replied sooner.

It can be challanging to find locations as they are named after scanner locations. They may or may not be on the map. Sometimes they are within a city (like Valley Jct which is East St Louis, IL).

Making this more confusing is that a point could be an interchange between different railroads and sometimes not. My truck was interchanged between the UP and Norfolk Southern at Valley Jct. However, in the case of the trucks going to the PNW, they will just pass through.

Below is the trace that I ran a few minutes ago:

TTGX 985444 VALLEY JCT IL 05 20 0525 L Junction Received UP SPOKANE WA ALS

TTGX 982048 VALLEY JCT IL 05 20 0525 L Junction Received UP SPOKANE WA ALS

TTGX 852694 POPLAR BLUFF MO 05 20 1356 L Departure AMXAS1 KENT WA UP

TTGX 254148 VALLEY JCT IL 05 21 1458 L Junction Delivery ALS CENTREVILLE IL UP

CN 712069 VALLEY JCT IL 05 20 0525 L Junction Received UP MILPITAS CA ALS

This one is cause lots of confusssion. The rail car that is bound for Centreville, IL has been interchanged to the Alton and Southern which is a terminal railroad in the ST Louis area. The ALS will place the car at the ramp and then a motor carrier will haul the truck to the dealer.

However, the other cars show "Junction Received" at Valley Jct. The thing is, the UP moved the car into the ST Louis area and now they are receiving the car? This can be confusing. What happened is the UP used the tracks of the terminal road to move through town and the scanner is reporting that the car has interchanged with the UP when all it really did was arrive back on rails that belong to them. While the cars could be routed diffently, it would appear that they will run across Missouri to Kansas City and then will go to North Platte for classification. It is likely they will be in North Platte for 24 hours.

That's a good thing... ... hopefully I'll have my truck by the end of the week if all goes well ! Oo.

Thanks for all the help & explanations !

Thanks John for the info as my truck is one of those that will pass through St. Louis. It has been there since 5:25AM Sunday morning. TKeeler mentioned that his truck was there for two days before it moved on.

Brad

Almost there

Brad my truck left Thursday eve. from Ill. and went thru Kansas and Neb. and all points west and is now in Davis Ca just out side Sacramento. and will be in Benicia Ca. soon. then to be loaded on a truck to So Lake Tahoe. Hope to have it by Thursday of so of next week. Once it started across country it move pretty much non stop. A couple of small delays of only 12 hours or sone is all i picked up on. Good luck and speede delivery Dan

Thanks Dan for the info on your truck. Mine is still sitting in IL near St. Louis as of 10PM Pacific on Tuesday. Good to hear that it moves along quickly after that.

Brad

As you can see below, most of these trucks/rail cars are still in East St. Louis, IL. However, the one bound for Centreville has been placed (which means it is at the ramp for unloading). The car may even be empty by now but it has not been released as such to the railroad.

The cars going to the PNW do not have a train symbol yet (only that they are on the Alton and Southern). This could change at any second or they could be there for days.

the scanner used to read the car numbers are called a AEI reader it will display where the car is unless the Yardmaster at the next receiving point wants to manipulate the reading to show the car there to make the train look like its on time or to cover up anothermisshap this happens all the time and the only way to really find where your car is to have a yardmaster user ID number to find the train symbol to locate the train . I was called on a train on monday that had probably 30 cars with dodge trucks on it and we bad ordered 2 cars faulty handbrakes and those two cars were shown departed . So i wouldnt expect these AEI readings on the public UP website to be very accurate.

My truck is on railcar TTGX 852832 and just arrived at Valley Junction this morning. Just hope it's not one of the one's with bad handbrakes! I hope to pick it up from Adam on June 5th. Thanks to all the posts about railcar movements. Bob.

My truck is on railcar TTGX852694 and is making the slow trek across the country to Kent, WA. From there it is going by ship to Anchorage, AK with an approximate arrival date of June 21. I want to thank everyone who is able to track these railcars with much more information then what I can get from the internet. Its both exciting and frustrating to watch the slow movement of the railcars.

unloaded

Just heard from Adam, my truck should be unloaded tomorrow, and put on a truck to Tahoe soon. Hope to have it next Wed or Thur. He sure is a great guy to work with , makes buying a truck a real pleasure, and a fun thing to do , not some to dread . Any one looking to buy can't go wrong with him Dan

Well my railcar finally left St. Louis today on to Spokane after sitting there for three days. Their site shows the constant AEI reports on one line and another one show eta of 5/28, but doesn't list the city, state.

Brad

I just looked at UP again and now it shows eta of 5/30. So as you guys have been saying, the site doesn't really show the status accurately. It says it arrived at Jefferson City, MO.

Brad, looks like our trucks are tracking pretty close to each other. Adam at Dishman says mine is due to offload on 5/2/07 but it' only a guess. Still hope to have it by the 5th of June. Bob.
