Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) truck has a miss only with edge on

My condition is just like ERuhls is described above. Not at steady cruise or light throttle, only moderate or heavy throttle with the box on. I did some more testing today and about 50 degrees is the point of miss or no miss.

Nope, mine did it all the time with the box on - any time there was any boost because that's when the box would be adding fuel.

You're not alone guys! I long for the days that above 40 degrees. Anything below that and the truck is no fun. (Edge comp, big lines, holley blue pump, and stage 4 jammers. I wouldn't call it a "miss" however, it feels like surging.

Anyone ever nail this down. Stock injectors and still a studder. Its the worst on #6 cant really feel it on 5 down. #@$%!

Very common with the Edge products. Dunno if it's temp or timing related, but I had the stutter when I ran Edge. Nothign fixed it other than removal. Much happier with the TST now.

Here is my theory

You guys are pulling air,When the fuel is cold it dosn't flow as easy. If your pump is external to the tank AND you have the stock fuel module, under heavy loads the VP44 is using more fuel than your external pump can pull thru the fittings in the old design fuel module. A vacuum starts to develope between the two, pulling air into the VP44. The reason it does it with the EDGE on, you are increasing the the amount of fuel the VP44 flows when you have the Box on. I,m willing to go out on a limb here and bet that most of you with this high demand miss,still have the old design fuel module and have an external fuel pump.

Huff, that isn't the case with mine. Upraded the fuel system and I garantee it's not sucking air. It's in the Edge timing.

I installed a Vulcan Draw Straw. In fact, I have a pre-production prototype. It's not even prettied up with anodizing. Made a huge difference!!



I do have the stock, modified module in place. It gives me a place to hook hoses and to keep the fuel level sender in place. Everything else is gone.

Does the truck act up while the tank is lower on fuel, I had alot of air issues when I had a draw straw Some times the fuel module pulls up against the bottom of the draw straw cause it floats up and down. Other times fuel will slosh around pulling air. The updated fuel module is a good fix cause it is pushing thru the restrictive fitting ratther than drawing thru, it you also avoid sloshing issues. For the guys fueling Harder gang it up with a pump outside the tank even with the old OE pump on the existing location you will net over 20psi and at wide open throttle it wont drop.

No issues at all with mine. I removed all the factory mesh in the module and carefully set the draw height. Never had any air drawn even with the gauge on less than 'E'.

My issue is definately "timing related" due to the amount of timing added by the edge box. There is another thread that discussed it and what I did to overcome it.



Problem existing with DDII's and stock VP44, then with Mach 4's and stock pump. Then continued after the FASS installation with 1/2" fuel lines and vulcan draw straw. Now it still does it with Mach 4's and an II Hotrod VP44.



Again, for me it ONLY occurs when it is cold (less than 55 degrees or so) and the edge box is on.



My fix was to fool the IAT sensor reading to make the ECM think the intake air is warmer and pull timing out of the engine. This is done with a resister and a switch. When needed, I just flip the switch and my problem goes away.



My setup will only draw air if the fuel tank is almost empty (I've done it once).

I pulled the EZ and installed the smarty and problem was gone. Definately edge related. I also have oversize fuel lines and a fass with water/air separator.
