Competition truck is on a diet...what else can go..

Yesturday i removed my spare tire, tow assembly, rear bumper (being replaced w/ rollpan) all was about 170 lbs. People say its like taking weight off a train but i can feel its lighter over the rear wheels. . today im going to take out my back seat and fold flat floor... what else can i do to get some weight off...

How about the tailgate? Funny you never see much mention about weight reduction to improve 1/4 mile times, only more HP. I used a G-Tech meter to measure my 1/4 mile time and after several attempts got consistant 15. 8 Removed about 200lb of fire wood from the bed and got consistant 15. 3... . so you know its gota work right?

Neal (fest3er) of DHRA fame explained to me that you pick up a tenth of a second for every hundred pounds that you drop.

Thanks Hoss. What can i take off the front of my truck to lose weight there... things i can think of is a carbon fiber hood. Maybe a really light differential cover different driveshaft...

if you have air conditioning on your truck, you could remove around 200 pounds if you take out the evaporator, compressor, condensor and associated tubing!!!!



if you are really interested in removing weight, look into an aluminum "hot shot" style body in place of the pickup box.

probably another 100 to 200 lbs difference.



also, as i have done in a 12 second vega. remove all the glass and replace it with lexan. another 100 to 200 lbs.



this may make the truck less confortable to drive, but it will remove weight.

yeah i second that,, i would not strip out a 03 dodge. . no way aold 1st gen or 12v 2nd gen ok. . but a 03 is too much $ ... keep it nice and buy a old builder 2wd cheap 2-5k or a dirt cheeap gasser body and put a cummins in it... . 03s are sweet and commfy... start stripping it and hacking it doesn't make sense to me at least. . to each his own. .

I've got a G-tech. Best run around home was an 15. 3 at 92mph. Ran in Muncie got a 15. 3 at 89mph. Ran on a Mustang Dyno 15. 9 at 92mph. I believe the G-tech over the dyno!
