If it still smokes and the sort with limited power and all of the ATC checks passed. You will need to go back over looking for leaks somewhere. There are a bunch of places for there to be some sort of leak or loose connection.

Review the original suggestions now that you have done additional replacements and see if something stands out.

It is 750-800 for automatic on a 96 as well.

There is a possibility that your linkage to the throttle is getting stuck.

But looking at my 96 service manual at gear ratios of auto trans (46re/47re) your trans (47rh) should be about the same. I also looked up my 5 speed ratios my 5th is a little taller. At 2000 rpm I' M doing 70 mph when I have the needle slicing the 0 on the 70 my tach is reading about 2100 to 2200 rpm. My 5th gear ratio is .74:1. The 47re in 4rth is .69:1.
If your showing 2000- 22000 rpm doing 60 mph I think your still in 3rd gear and your hearing the torque convertor unlocking or locking. 4th gear is on the 5spd is 1.00:! the same as the 47re 3rd gear 1.00:1
I doubt that they changed gear ratios on the 47re so I think the 47rh gears are the same.
