Competition Labor Day Drags

Off Roading 1st Decent off-road trip with the CTD

Hey guy's,

I have a friend who was in a verbal dispute with one of his friends, about the history of truck pulling, where it started, when it started ect.

Does anybody know the answers to these questions ? or possibly know where I could look for the info.

Thanks,

Scott

Like all competitive things that man has created... it all started when one guy said:

"Hey, I bet my (insert implement or animal here... ) can do (insert tremendous feat here... . ) better/faster than your (insert implement or animal here... ) can do it. "

My guess is that it started with guys/gals and horse pulling... . I've seen it a couple of times at county fairs. You have a few horses pulling a boatload of weight and the winner is decided on a number of factors... . total distance, time, weight... .

Some guys/gals then probably just adapted it to their tractors... . and then eventually to their pickup trucks.

What's next... . hover car pulls? :)

Your right I read some history some time back on pulling and that's exactly what happened. They would line both sides of the track with people spaced apart down the track and then they would jump on the sled until they had enough people on board to stop the horses forward motion. Pretty crude compared to today, but it worked and talk about fan participation... . :D
