This just happened on my '01 24V so I want to see if it sounds like a simple and obvious problem befor I start to panic. :(

At cruising speed (55mph) the truck gave a big shunt and the check engine light came on, now it seems that at idle it is fine, running a WOT it is fine but in the mid throttle position the truck sputters and looses power.

Please tell me it is something as simple as TPS (throttle position sensor). I have had similar problems on various cars in the past that have resulted in there replacement. Is the 24V motor so equipped?

As it is late here on the west coast I will not be able to pull any codes until morning and hopefully find a diagnostics tool. Are these specific to the Cummins motor or will any Chrysler tool work?

What is your fuel pressure? You may be seing code 0216. The injection pump may be dieing.

Dodge 24 valve Cummins need to replace the tach with a fuel pressure guage. It is much more important.

That code is: P1693 (M) DTC Detected in PCM/ECM

It is basically a code that tells you there are other codes stored on the ECM OR PCM & the only way to read/erase them is with a code scanner. Turning the key on and off will not bring up any other codes...

For instance I got that code before my comp box and I borrowed my buddies code scanner and had the P0234 Turbo Boost Limit Exceeded and it was set twice. . I cleared it and all is fine now. .

i've had similar gremlins with my 01, and they cleared after i removed, cleaned and reattached the ground leads from both batteries (as well as moving the ground for my Comp to the left front fender)

Here's what I know. After a $160. 00 code scanner it revealed the following codes,

PO251, P1688, PO252, PO251, P1688 and PO252

Any ideas what the fix might be?

Let me add to those code the definitions,

PO251 Injection pump metering control A

PO252 Injection pump metering control A Range/Performance

P1688 Manufacture control auxiliary inputs Auxiliary outputs

Thanks guys anything will help.

I'm not positive on this, but would say that your injection pump might be going south on you...

I'm sure some other members will chime in...

I would also agree on the VP-44... . better get ready to fork out some $$$$ Talk to Bob Wagner on here, he can hook you up with a good deal on the VP-44

Thanks Guys,

Spoke to Bob and I'm getting ready to fork out the cash, will change lift pump and install fuel pressure gauge all at the same time.

Appreciate the response, can't thank you enough.

I would check fuel pressure and disconnect the wires going to the VP-44 first, clean them and re-install them and see if you still have a problem. Sometimes a bad connection will cause those problems, check the wire to the VP.
