Reverse in the G56 is left and back by the driver's right leg, next to second gear.

So instead of hitting reverse going into 7th gear ( :-laf ), you have to be careful starting out in reverse instead of 2nd? ( )

I'm glad I have my NV5600.

Deep down inside I know it's not that difficult, but I prefer the pattern we have.

WOW... I just hope I can adapt to this highly complicated shift pattern. Maybe there will have to be an intelligence test given at the dealer before you can buy a G56 6 speed... :-laf :-laf

"I haven't heard anything bad about the NV5600 so I can only guess they are going with the new unit because it is an in-house unit. "

Can you spell "C-H-E-A-P-E-R"? ;) :D :D

GOOD NEWS -

Gwoody may stop by Neosho Dodge and drive the new G56

I called and asked the dealer trade guy if it was there, and he asked if it was the one with the "funky shifter, w/ reverse by first"

He did say he did not notice the difference until he looked at the shifter

I asked if he knew about the G56 - he said "Whats the G56???"

Figures :(

Tommy, here's the scoop, I stopped by the dealer and took the new G56 for a spin, keep in mind I now own an automatic, my first, but I have drove standards for years prior to this truck. The transmission shifts good nice and tight shift pattern, quiet as a church mouse, only time will tell how they hold up as well as how well the new dual friction flywheel holds up. Gotta admit it sure seems strange pullin that shifter to you and down for reverse.

how did the clutch feel? i drive a tacoma and i am used to a soft clutch, i am a little worried about a stiff clutch, i realize it is a truck, but after driving my friends 03 mustang, i can't go to anything stiffer. the stang was very stiff at the top of the pedal travel and then just sort of fell to the floor.

This is not exactly what your looking for, but I will give you my experience. When I test drove the 2005 Ram I was immediately aware that the clutch was a lot softer then my 2001 5sp. The one I test drove was a NV5600, so I can't tell you about the G56 until it arrives, but the difference between my 2001 and the 2005 I drove was very noticeable. Haven't made up my mind as to which is better, just different... :)

This clutch was nice and smooth, very easy to push.

I think reverse should be by first... . so you can rock your truck if you're stuck.

That's just me but from all the way to the left and up to all the way to the right and down is a long way.

Hey, Tommygun

Hey, Tommygun,

I'm just curious, do you know as much about all the other cars your dealership sells or do you just specialize in trucks? One dealership I went to had a guy that specialized in trucks and was very knowledgeable. Too bad he wouldn't match the price I got from another dealer because I really wanted to give him my business. You have the price and knowledge... just too far away.

I admit I know more about the trucks... But I do know quite a bit about the other models... Heck, its my job... But I am more in tune to the rams because I of course drive one... and always am messing with it, you know :D

Well, I was not supposed to tell. but every time you guys post - your VIN# pops up next to your signature - and I am storing all the mods VS the VINs so I can blackmail everyone into buying from me

Woah... , Did I say that out loud? - I though this was my inner dialog, opps :D

:--) :--) :--) WHAT :--) :--) That's no fair :-laf

Tomeygun, the reason I bought a dodge with a cummins is to have it last a VERY VERY long time. So if your still around in 20 years maybe?

Ok OK so it has a funky shift pattern, what rear end gears did it have : 3. 55, 3. 73, 3. 92 or 4. 10????????

Dave

Heck, I'd trade my NV5600 for a G56.

I don't want to spend the money for 4. 10's, I'd welcome the lower 6th gear, and the rumored better shifting. It's not easy to row quickly through the gears on my current truck. My old (early nineties) F350 with a 460 was much easier to shift quickly.

As for a new truck... I'll wait until the new automatic. Then tomeygun will get a call from me. Then I'll get to visit some friends while picking up my new truck! I haven't been to St. Louis in ages.
