Off Roading AMA ATV & Motorcycle Sand Race

Competition Worlds Quickest Diesel Truck

Derrick Borders of TS Performance defeats Matt Stuckey of Garmon's Racing to win the 1st ever Pro Street race in Atlanta.

Derrick and the TS crew did an awesome job improving their times all day and won the final round with a 11. 13 pass.

JeepyJohn of the TS team made it to the final round of street competition in his Ford and lost to a local racer. John's final pass, a 15. 40 on a 15. 39 dial in a close race. Way to go John.

Wayne Skeens of Indiana captured the manual transmission purse for running a best pass of 16. 38 in his 5 speed truck. This challenge was fun to watch all day. I'll do this again.

Congratulations to all of the winners. It is competition like this that makes this a fun sport.

I truly appreciate everyone that came out to support the event. I was great to see so many of you again and many new faces too. I want to thank my sponsors, TS Performance, Sun Coast Converters, and Garmon's Diesel for giving the Pro Street guys something to run for.

Thanks to Mike and Jamey for running the Dyno all day.

Thanks to my wife Penny, for leaving me some rubber left on the rear tires of my truck. (How many of your wifes have done 1/8 mile burnouts? ;) )

See you all next year.

Well we all know you Married the right woman ;)

David... . You're right on the pictures. They are nice. Even got me and my fool stunt in Charlie's truck. Who was the local racer the beat Jeepyjohn?

And as far as Freddy's truck, what a show. To me the best race of the day was Freddy and Jeff. That little ford is quick. And Freddy, he really puts on a show with the wheelies. When the front comes down, it really shakes the tires. The bad part was the reaction of the Southern Truck Parts group when he beat Jeff. Really low class. Still Jeff ran 137 mph. The really low point was the STP group screaming when Matt ripped out his transmission on the run against the TS truck.

Still a great day. Weather, people, racing and all the girls. And my wife , too. ;)

It wasnt very hot, it was only 90* 40% humidity in TS's trailer with the AC on.

And I would like to thank EVERYONE who DIDNT SHOW UP that races a stick for letting my slow farm truck be the fastest manual truck there. Out of the 3 manual trucks we were all within 0. 3 of each other. My run in the 2nd round felt too strong on the launch and instead of letting off, I hammered down and broke out bigger than crap and won the $$$$. And I was nice enough to let John of TS take the easy win over me.

The only way this could have been a better race was if we had more cooldown time between the rounds. 1 to 3 hours just wasnt enough. But the cooldown time at Las Hacienda was pretty good with the 42oz crown and cokes.

Here are the comments from the Atlanta Dragway website. They have the name of the Southern Truck Parts racer that won the DPM Diesel Shootout Bracket class. Not all of the facts are correct but you will get the idea.

Newnan, GA racer Lebron Hill took his Southern Truck Parts ’95 Dodge RAM truck all the way to the winner’s circle in the DHRA Diesel Shootout. Hill took advantage of a big holeshot (. 083 seconds vs. opponent John Davis’ . 255 react) and tapped the brakes at the finish line to win with a 15. 98, 82. 74mph pass (15. 91 dial). Davis’ ’01 F350 was deadly on the dial in time, but due to the late reaction time, was the second vehicle to cross the finish line with a 15. 40, 89. 22mph pass (15. 39 dial). Charles Nash (’96 RAM – McDonough, GA) was the semi-final finisher. “This was a great experience for me. It was my first time attending this event. I’ll be back,” added Hill.

Bowling Green, KY racer Derek Borders won the Pro Street Diesel event with his ’95 RAM easily with a 11. 13 second 120. 18mph pass after his opponent, Matt Stuckey (’99 RAM – Whigham, GA) snapped a transmission input shaft shortly after he left the starting line.

Really they're not sure it's the input. Won't know till the teardown. Most likely the input though. That one is the strongest going. And it breaks? Man o Man.

I still say I'd rather have a little wheel spin than a broken transmission. :{

Wheel hop in 4x4 with alot of power on a sticky track is a bad thing. Mental note, Procomp AT's are not the end all be all drag tire.

I agree Wayne. Both Darren and Matt are running 33" AT's and they are not what is needed to race. They also IMO need ladder bars. Without them the springs load and release to which IMO causes the trucks to leap rather than plant. All of these things add major stress to the drive train. Winter project.

I can tell you on one pass it looked like Darren actually leaped (all 4 tires) in the air. Not good!!!
