Potential TDR/Cummins Super B sticker

I see many of you CR guys talking a lot about the Smarty programmers. I have an '05 with the BD and have had good success. I am thinking about new programmer as I don't think Crazy Larry is coming back.

Do any of you have any experience with the TST? I hear this is a powerful programmer.

Yes, but the TST is not a programmer, it is a chip that is adjustable from the cab. It primarily does timing and duration, although the newer ones have rail pressure adjustability as well (although its effectiveness seems to be a little glitchy for a lot of people). You should probably stack a pressure box with the TST for best results... either Edge EZ, TS MP-8, etc.

While some people prefer the TST/pressure stack over the Smarty, the new Smarty programs would probably do everything and more that you are looking for. The only downside to the Smarty is that you have to download a new program to change power levels, and there is no cooldown timer.

With the current Smarty programs available, the Smarty/TST/MP-8 triple stack (which I'm currently running) has shown to make great power with the appropriate supporting mods; however, the new upcoming TNT Smarty tunes may greatly minimize the gains to be had from triple stacking.

You can read for hours about the TST if you use the search function here...

What are the new updates coming to Smarty?

Thanks for the help... Scott

We are beta testing the REVOlution softwares now

For the first time the Cummins engine performance tuning software can be customized directly by the

user.

With the Smarty S-06 and S-04 this becomes reality. The first one in the industry !!!

The Revolution starts here…

What has changed?

At first glance not too much… Smarty’s update file now contains all truck models from 2003 to 2007

for the Dodge Cummins 5. 9L Common Rail. The new software update is smaller in size than the

previous ones, so it takes less time to update Smarty.

The new update is perfectly compatible with the previous firmware versions.

It is still possible to download into the truck a ready-to-use performance software , just like today. You

do not need to become a rocket scientist to tune your truck, Smarty will do it for you.

Yet , over time your truck’s needs may ( or better worded WILL ) change and you need to adapt the

tuning software to these changes.

Today, this becomes reality!

When you enter the “ECM update“ menu on Smarty you will find a newly added chapter:

“Adjust Options“.

Once entered, this menu allows you to choose among several items and levels of customization.

The items are :

Speed-limiter

RPM Limiter***

Shift limiter***

Torque Management levels

Injection timing

Rail Pressure

Wastegate

The levels are :

Speed-limiter

From 25 to 250 mph in one mile increments

RPM Limiter***

# 0 - Stock

# 1 - 4000 RPM

Shift Limiter***

# 0 - Stock (On)

# 1 - Off ( also shift light indicator will be turned off )

Torque Management

# 0 - Default ( depending on CaTCHER level )

# 1 - Stock

# 2 - Mild

# 3 - Moderate

# 4 - Wild ( aftermarket clutch / AT Transmission recommended )

Injection Timing

# 0 - Default ( depending on CaTCHER level )

# 1 - Stock

# 2 - Mild ( for stock injectors )

# 3 - Advanced ( for aftermarket Injectors )

# 4 - Moderate ( Less timing advance than level 3 )

Rail pressure

# 0 - Default ( depending on CaTCHER level )

# 1 - Stock

# 2 - Mild

# 3 - Moderate

# 4 - Wild (aftermarket injectors recommended)

Wastegate ( for 2004. 5 and up trucks only )

# 0 - Stock (On)

# 1 - Off ( for aftermarket turbo )

How does it work?

If you prefer Smarty standard software configuration, simply skip the “Adjust Options” menu and

choose the CaTCHER level you prefer, as in previous Smarty software.

If you want to change the default setting of any (or all…) of the customizable items, you can enter the

“Adjust Options” menu, navigate with the “ > “ and “ < “ keys to the item you want to customize and

enter your choice. Done! Smarty will do the rest.

At the end of the items list, Smarty will store your selections in its memory. In this way, your preferred

selections will be applied every time you program your truck.

As a simple example, if you set the Speed-limiter to “100”, Smarty will always use that value for all

ECM updates. That’s, until you change the value again or return Smarty back to stock.

The REVO update will be available in the download page in a few days, at the end of the beta-test

*** Available, for fully prepared engines, with the TNT-Race tunes only

If your local Diesel shop has recommended the ppe... . then I would make them "put it in writing", for customer service, recovery program, All the life saving events that may come about. If they fail, then purchase a Smarty. :)

I bought a PPE and It trashed my ECM. Right after I installed it, my truck wouldn't move. it would start but the go-pedal did nothing. I tried returning the truck to stock... no luck.

I called the jokers at PPE and was put on hold 5 times for 20 minutes. Finally the told me It was my fault, and that was that:-{}

I towed the truck to the stealership and they couldn't reflash it and said I need a new ECM ($3000)

Next, I called Bob Wagner (Smarty) , told him the story, and he asked for my VIN number. The next day he handed me a smarty with a Recovery mode in it. The total amount that Bob charged me for this save was $0 nada, nothing, not a red cent!

I took it to the dealership where my truck was and did the recovery.

The service manager had a smirk on his face because he was sure It wouldn't work. Then I started the truck and drove it off the lot giving the finger to the service guy. :D

Bob, Thanks again for saving my butt. I now own a SmartyOo.

Don't buy a p. o. s. PPE.

What are the power gains from the Smarty? I know there are 10x2 settings, but what can be had on Smarty alone hp/tq? No stacking... just programmer with injectors/exhaust, etc.

Thanks

I got two guys running tst's in their trucks and both are having problems with it throwing fuel rail pressure codes, I had a edge ez laying around that we are gonna try for fuel pressure, they also get crank/cam sensor codes when they drive on dirt roads

well just installed a r37 on a 04. 5 and its throwing the crank sensor code, the other trucks with the r49's are a 03 and a 04. 5 all the boxes are the updated post 5000 or what ever number so I'm not too happy about it throwing codes all the time, can't wait for the adrenaline to come out for the common rails
