Got my TST box today and some dyno runs

I got one of the first boxes TST put out. My clutch lasted 1 hr. Also it appears that the 6 spds have much less problems with EGT's than the auto's do.

Thanks Scott, that makes sense. I have not had an egt issue either. I have to back out of the throttle because of the boost. I peg my 35psi gauge. I really wish AM made a 60psi Phantom gauge:mad: I am still running the EZ elbow. I do have the TST elbow now but I am thinking about putting the stock one back in and seeing if I can adjust the wastgate. I did find on Holset site all Holset service manuals in Zipped /Adobe format.

Start with part& service then go to service literature.

You can get a 60 psi phantom gauge from autometer. You have to call and special order it. Some other members have done it in the past

I just recieved my tst box last Friday, I have a 04 305 hp with auto . I tried the box on numerous settings up to 5/5 max . egt's are a problem above 4/4 hit 1350 no problem . also noticed boost hit 43 lbs on 5/5 . what is max for a stock turbo?? I have noticed a bit of chatter in my 3/4 upshift and some chatter on the 4th gear lock -up . Time for a transmission upgrade . Any suggestions on converters ,valve bodys?? transmission only has 13k on it . I have turned box down for now.

If you value the life of your turbo get thet out of there! There has been at leas one turbo blow up because of the EZ elbow with the TST box. This box adds soo much fuel soo fast you need the wastegate to open as soon as possible and the EZ elbow doesn't let it. I ran the TST elbow for a couple days before I put the stock one back in to keep my boost under control.

FYI: This box is programmed to not add any more fuel once the boost is reading above 35 psi so if you're seeing numbers above 40 you're boost must be climbing faster than your wategate can open.

Diesel Dynamics in Las Vegas has the 60 psi guage. I know I have one... . :D

That's good to know that someone stocks them now. When I bought my gauges for the 03 I really wanted to go with the phantoms but didn't because I only saw a 35 psi gauge listed. Then a buddy and fellow TDR member told me that you can special order them and that he had one in his truck. Well, at that point it was too late. The DiPricols were on the way. :D

So is it safe to say that with the injectors I will exp. an engine knock? Has anyone else experienced this with injectors or Lonestar you the only one?

Merrick of Laredo Performance has a friend running injectors with the TST box. I am not sure of what they are running for a turbo. He says that it runs great and flat out hauls @ss

My EGT were fine probably because I could not or would not keep my foot in to long once I saw boost gauge go past 35 and tried hitting pin that stops needle at zero

The above was done with stock boost elbow and apparently the tst will dump fuel until it sees 35 psi and with stock elbow it is harder to hit 35 so it must be dumping more fuel (could this contribute to blown turbos?)

I now installed TST boost elbow and tried again and boost jumped to 35-40 but stopped there although the reason I believe it was dumping more fuel with stock elbow, is It broke DRW loose and with TST elbow boost was more in line but DRW just slipped and gripped as I floored it.

does anyone know if the hx-50/60 is a direct bolt on replacement. ?? only $100 buck more than the hx-35 seems different in the picture though. anyone done one or know of someone that has??

thanks getting a TST and thinking about new turbo and some transmission work.

Stock Boost Elbow

Well I put my stock boost elbow in today and I feel the wastegate opening ant 25psi. I can hit between 30 and 35 when it is floored. Now this is with no load. I did notice my egt's go up a little faster but not uncontrollable. I had my box set on 5/5 and floored and could stay in it a long time until I finally hit 1200 on my egt's. I think I am still going to see if there is a way to adj the wastegate to something more like 40-45psi. The boost elbows seem way to unreliable.

ESTELJ I was wondering the same thing until I heard about how hard it is for are motor to spool anything over an HX40.

The box is programmed with a basically linear fuel ramp that levels off at 35 pounds of boost. I don't think you'll be able to maintain 40-45 lbs boost. Anything over 40 psi is off the map for this turbo anyway and will net little gain.

On my 600 and stock W/G could hit 45+ lbs, put in TST W/G actuator and could only hit 30 and truck was way slower so I rigged up an adjustable valve and have it set at about 36-37 lbs and is just perfect for me. The problem with the 600's are when you boost fool the ECM only a very small signal to the electronic W/G actuator is sent so W/G barely opens and the boost can go through the roof on these engines.

You could always try one of the hybrid 40/55's. They have a 40 exhaust housing and a 55 compressor. The 40 exhaust housing is easier to spool

Who put those together and sells them.

Also the set screw in the TST elbow can you adjust it??? And what is the very small port on the outside for?? It looks like it would bleed off boost.

Well it sounds like 40psi is the magic #. If we could make our wastegate open there. I am reading the manual on our turbo to see what they say about the wastegate. Everything in there about testing says a max of 45psi. I would think that they make different springs to make them open at different boost??? Does anyone know for sure???

There are two ways for the 600's to adjust boost. One is to buy a copper adjustable scew petcock valve and hook it to the hollow bolt goes into the manifold (very hard to get the right threds on this valve) and second is kind crude and I dont like to do it but my buddy and I did it on his 02', is to take a very small and sharp scribe or awl, and VERY VERY VERY slightly open up the little bleed off valve on the elbow then you can bring the boost down insted of try to make more and trust me you will have alot more in a hurry. One problem though if you go to big (very easy to do) then you wont get enough boost and it is pretty much irreversable with the same elbow to fix.
