i dont think this transmission will hold 400 ponies longterm. Keep that in mind. flooring this engine with 400 ponies and a load will brake this transmission I would bet on it.

Hi guys-

Been lingering in the back corner of these box threads. I, too, think I like the TST for the sheer fact that it doesn't modify the fuel pressure. So here's the question...

Can I run this box with just an exhaust change? I already run gauges and have watched my egt's soar with everything stock, so I'm a little worried about adding a box (but love the in-cab adjustability, which is why I'm not a fan of the EZ. )

BTW, I'm towing 16,000-20,000 lbs about 50% of the time. I just want more "ooomph" but still have a truck that will run 300k miles.

Thanks-

jt

According to TST's website the box will add up to 150HP and 500 Ft Lb Tq at the rear wheels with the stock exhaust turbo and airfilter. They even have "stock" in bold letters. How many of you think TST will fix your engine for you once it grenades at these powerful levels with all the stock equipment?

It's a Cummins, it'll take it. The EGT defueling should save them from idiots and damage to other things such as transmissions is not their fault, it's the users. JMO.

I would say the stock lift pump almost has to be inadequate to use this box to it's full potential. It's been reported that even with rail pressure boxes, the fuel pressure has been pulled to zero.

The nice thing about this box is the adjustability. It's the kind of box we're not likely to outgrow. Start at the lower levels and work your way up as turbos, intakes, etc are added. I think Mark himself even once stated that he had found nothing in the aftermarket that could control the EGTs that are possible with a box of this type. That's not to say this box can't be controlled, but perhaps an extreme prototype version gave a very large power gain. What I'm trying to say is that everyone can run this box, but at what level depends on what else you've done to your truck. If a stock HO dynos at 270 or so then a 420hp truck should be manageable with a turbo, intake and exhaust.

XcumminsX, I will do some 0 to 60 times once the snow is gone. You will need a pusher pump to be able to run on the upper settings. Mark says that not to run the combination of HP and #'s more than 6 for towing= Hp-4 and TQ 2 or any other combo. I was on the interstate tonight and was on power setting #7 and TQ 4, I was going about 65 mph and floored it and something started to slip. Either the converter clutch or overdrive clutches. Mark said that they probably will tone down the box so more of it could be used but that is not yet decided. EGT's will not be controllable at the extreme levels but withe a better turbo and exhaust and intake it will help over stock. All their testing is done stock so people dont think they have to buy all this other stuff to make that kind power, they don't say in their add that this kind of power can be used for any certain thing only that it will be able to make the power #'s that they claim. As great as this box is I do wonder how my B-1 quick spool is going to help too. I have got to get the transmission beefed up ASAP!

Let us know as soon as you get the transmission done and try it with that B1. That is the direction I'm leaning. Oh yea, I'm gunna have to place my order before they go and do something crazy like turn it down!

So... anything past 6 (combined HP/Torque settings) is considered unsafe for the OEM lift pump, transmission... . and this bad boy can go up to 20?!

I know... . I sound like a guy who thinks his stereo is better because it goes to level 30... when the other guy's stereo only goes to 10. :-laf

Matt

Reminds me of that Spinal Tap movie. I'm going to call and see if Mark can make mine go to 11!

The combination of HP and torque being 6 was for towing purposes. To me that says EGTs will be safe at full throttle so that you can pull hills and actually use the power. When going above 6 things probably get out of control to where you could only stay in it for a short time.

The way I understand it the torque setting is controlling the low rpm fuel delivery and the HP controls the top end. This is useful because I remember being able to slip the stock clutch on my 01 below 1900 rpm. Being able to customize the fueling curve can save someone some possible drivetrain problems if they haven't yet upraded.

Even if you run the TQ# down on 1 and HP# on 7 it still came on WAY strong and felt like it was stressing the converter. You guys need to know that this box is WAY! powerful. It is more than usable on the lower settings BUT! when you start getting on the upper settings watch out because its unreal.
