I just unsubscribed from TST because there isnt any good subject matter on their Mail list, my question is why dont I hear much about the PM1,2,3 product line, are they not as good, or is there something they dont do as well.

I was considering getting DDIII's with a PM3 but I dont hear much about this combo, is it OK? or should I go with a PE or TTPM?. I have all the preliminary work out of the way now and want the rest done before June for Muncie.

Huh? We talk about them all the time.
I have DDII's and the 'standard' 10-level PM3,and I know Ross has DDII's with the 'competition' 10-level PM3. Steve St Laurent has 275's and just upgraded to a PM3,and there are many others with the PM1's and PM2's and PM3's.
I see nothing wrong with the DDIII and PM3 combo, just be sure to save some cash for a stonger clutch because the stocker will be glazed toast in no time flat.

TST is a good product. I have not owned one, but others I know have.

As you read this board, or go searching in the archives, you will see a "flavor of the month" club. Doesn't mean that is any better product.

I still have my original 3 wire Blue Box from Blue Chip Diesel. I am very happy with it. If I was purchasing a box today, it would be between Blue Chip and TST.

I may be wrong, but I believe that TST wast the first company to develop the technology for the various fueling boxes out there (Blue Chip was early on the scene as well). I also believe that TST produces the computers for the Banks systems, set up to Banks' specifications, at least, that's what I've heard. TST is also the first company to develop a computer which cuts back fuel based on real-time EGT readings.

There are many company's out there, and most have excellent products and most provide good customer service. It's a great time to be a Bombing consumer. Many choices to choose from. I remember back in February 1998 when I first got my 24 valve, I was very dissappointed in the power. It was a loooooong wait until the Powermax came out. The Blue Box also hit the street at about the same time. Since then, many new products have come out, and this forum has been a wonderful place to find out what's new and hot!

My advice is simply talk to the companies, and make your own decision. Like I said, they're all pretty good (except for the physician).

I bought a TST PowerMax when it was the only thing out there for the 24valver. Still have it, It still rocks. And they have an upgrade program!

I also have the PM3 and I'm very happy with it. Amazing power from just a fueling box.

IMO, Rob hit it on the head with the "flavor of the month" comment! That's exactly what I have noticed. TST was the first manufacturer to have a fueling box out and IMO is still the class leader on true fueling boxes. I bought one of the very first Powermax boxes available (first batch) and I recently upgraded to the Powermax3 adjustable and did a ton of dyno testing at TST for an upcoming article for the magazine. The plan was for me to leave there with the PM3 with the boost/egt gauge built in along with EGT defueling but there were still some bugs to work out of it (we did test it on my truck though). The flavor of the month thing is natural if you think about it. How many people are going to actually buy boxes from multiple manufacturers to test on their trucks? What happens is a new box comes out and guys buy that box, it gives an incredible increase in power (ALL of the boxes, can-bus or pump-wire do) and they are ecstatic about it! Understandably so, but there is very little box a versus box b testing on the same or like trucks. IMO the best comparison of upgrades is a 40-60 time in direct gear (4th on 5 speeds, 5th on 6 speeds - at least for manuals) and compare times. If you start at 35 mph and go full throttle, start the timer at 40 mph and stop it at 60 mph, that takes many of the variables out of the situation. Now there's no launch technique, shifting speeds, or turbo lag affecting it. My 40-60 time with a Powermax3 and 275 injectors is 3 seconds flat. BTW, Briarhopper has a PM3 competition box with DDIII injectors along with an HX40 turbo.

Thanks for the reassurance guys, I came into this second truck with the idea I would go with DDIII's, PM3,clutch,and exhaust. Then after the new of all that wore off, I would go to a HX40. but with the recent bombarding of the PE, PE-EZ, posts I lost my nerve. #ad

as I said before, I want to have the stuff on for the Muncie event which means I better get on the horn and order them. I talked to Mark at TST in December about the PM3 and I was pumped to find out it could be turned nearly off, from the cab. so my darling wife could drive it without tearing out the trucks rearend and mine. #ad

Todd T:

I really like the TST products. I have a PM2 and plan on upgrading to the PM3 adjustable. Installed one on a friend's 2001. 5 ETH/DEE. Kicks a$$!

O BTW, you can shut all the power off of the TST boxes right on the box and run stock.

Fianlly, I really like the service Mark Chappel provides. He takes the time to explain things.

wanted to get this back to the top in reference to Mr. Hindman's Question. I see nowhere in here a mention of turbo failure and I asked the question TST PM3 and DDIII's is this combo OK?

Todd,
I think we are on the same page. We should just all get together and order this stuff. We could get a deal maybe? I have been talking to some guys about the southbend clutch. We got a good deal, and the clutch will hold up to 400+hp. so we should be good... . just incase you didnt read that post.

It's all about marketing. He who spends the most bucks advertising, with a little ( most of the time WITH ALOT)B. S. atracts the BUCKS. Everyone's product is better than the others, according to whom ever you are listening to at the time. When is the last time someone that had something to sell you said " you know I have a good praduct but this guy's is better"? YOU SPEND YOUR MONEY AND YOU TAKE YOUR CHANCES. You have to make your own decisions. Don't get caught caught-up in the "HYPE". Rescearch-Do your homework, spend your money wisley. Ask questions from people the have "MANY" miles on their up-grades. You paid a lot of "BUCKS" for that machine, you better know what your doing before you start tinkering with it.

not falling on deaf ears here, Arar.

that is how I have lived my life to this point, and it hasnt done me wrong yet #ad

Has anyone done the 40-60 test with the PE-EZ?

Steve St. Laurent, your 40-60 times do not say what level the PM3 is on. Isn't there 10 levels?
I'd be happy to run some tests with the EZ and then the EZ and PE combo to give some time comparisons, but not knowing what level the PM3 was on for these tests, the comparison would not be accurate.

My intial runs from 40 to 60 with the PE on level 1,2 are very quick. And this is with DDII's and the EZ. I regularly do this on the way to work, to blow by slower traffic.

Steve, is that supposed to be comparable to the EZ on level 3, with or without the EZ?
I'd like to know how close the boxes are.

TST Powermax is a great product and super service, but I think will have to sell my new PM3 adjustable. My truck has to go to the doctor next week for what I believe is a bad APPS (throttle controler) and they are already making excuses, so I will take off the PM and I don't want to do this each time (truck is 6 months old and 3000mi). I hate to take this thing off--man it pulls. If anyone is interested drop me a e-mail.
