JP- I think you were lucky you were dealing with an idiot... with loose money. :) The ONLY way you won this contest was because Numbnuts had his tires spinning, and we all know that a spinning tire has no traction. You've gotten yourself out of that hole now with Peter's DD clutch, but I think that if the fella on the other end of the line had a brain it could have been a little more interesting.

Sorry I won't be able to see you in MM'11 as the wife has put her foot down firmly atop mine, claiming those dates as hers. Ya know, you COULD let somebody else win something once in a while... . :D Just a thought.

Greg

JB,

I'm glad you revived this. I read your first go around with this clown and loved it. Once again, I love it this time around. If you go again, any chance of posting a video of it? Like others have said, I'm kinda jealous that there are no idiots like this near me so I could make some easy money, too.

I had a pull at a Chevy dealer one time. I had taken my bro to check on his Blazer, in for repairs, when a guy pulled up in his Blazer. He was checking out my welding rig, '69 Chevy 3/4 ton long bed, with a Lincoln SA 200 welding machine and all associated welding tools to go with it all. Inside, we were checking on my brother's Blazer when he spied it, all jacked up and with big tires and wheels. This was in '78 or '78 and there weren't many lifted trucks in our area. He said his Blazer could out pull my bro's, because he didn't have all that "junk" on his. I told him my old '69 could pull his and he wanted to know if I had a chain. I did, 3/8" high test, to be exact. We hooked them up. I let him take up the slack in the chain before I let off the brake and then the clutch. I had a 350, 4-speed manual, and 4. 56 gears, and weighed about 9000 lbs. I could have out pulled him if I had a 292 six cylinder. I was moving backwards when I put some power to the ground and then gave it some gas. His auto transmission stalled out his engine at a rather high rpm and he then locked up his brakes. I pulled him back several feet before I stopped. He wanted a repull, because his engine died, but I wouldn't do it, because something was going to get broken.

Juanito, great story, I love it. Congratulations on another win. This is how life should be all the time, that would be sweet. It seems that your truck pulls as great as it looks, even when the clutch is shot.

I was wondering if I could have this kid's address so I can stop by sometime this week to pick up a little spending money. Or perhaps we can set up a pulling day, you know, sort of like a dyno day except at this kid's house. We can all meet there in the morning and take turns dragging him around the block until his tires are down to the rims. In fact why stop there, we could see how much of his truck we can wear off on the asphalt, maybe up to the bottom of the doors? That way it would help you out by giving him the chance to beat several Dodges all in a row so he won't keep bugging you every time he starts to feel as if his Toyota is feeling stronger than yours.

For the third pull, please have somebody video the event so we can all enjoy it!

you left out the best part... . what about a dodge tied to the back and one to the front with the TOY in the middle... . That sound like a blast to me... LOL

Yes this kid is filthy rich. His parents are in the real estate or banking business of some kind I'm not really sure. Heck they could be the biggest drug dealer in the west cost for all I know. It sickens me to see this spoiled brat throw away money as I toiled in the military for 22 ½ years and came out physically beat up and poor while this kid just sits in his lazy boy and harass a poor CTD owner. It P*** me off to think that we all work very hard to earn enough $$ to buy our CTD while this brat are given everything he wants.
I am sure he will be back for a third try. His truck is gone from his driveway and apparently is in a Toyota performance shop somewhere.
I probably could have taken him stock but I did not want to take any chances besides I wanted to see his truck covered with soot. “Valet” is SW 0 on the Smarty.
I'll be ready for him next time as I will have Peter's DD 3250 installed for sure. I hooked the towing strap to the trailer hitch and not the bumper as it might not be able to take the strain.
Don't get me wrong his Toyota Tundra Crew Max is a beautiful truck. However, IMO it is no match to our HD CTD as they are not in the same league. As TWest said Tundras are grocery getters while ours are work truck.
Greg, you think he could have taken me if he had a little more traction? I think my 4K lbs weight advantage was just too great to overcome. Too bad you will not be at MM11. Who will be taking the pictures? I asked my wife for permission on our drive back from this years MM so we are set to return. In fact I've already made my hotel reservation. I'm not planning to officially enter the Show-N-Shine next year but will just show my truck to fellow members so we can all gather around and BS for a few hours. I have new things done to the truck and have more planed thanks to this kid's money. Hope to get it all done by MM11.
The first time around I was planning to video it but he changed the schedule. This time around I believe one of his friends videotaped it but as you probably guessed I could not get a copy of it.
Allnew2Me (love the handle), This Tug-o-War was probably the most work my truck has ever done all its 32K miles of life as I don't tow anything at all. I was really shocked that my shot clutch held. Did you smell my clutch at MM10 dyno day? It stunk up the dyno area during the pull. My truck is not as great looking as some member's trucks. I just try to keep it as clean as possible every day and spend two weeks to clean it some more before every MM. It is all in the small details to give that impression of a “clean truck”. If you come up to Sacramento we can all harass this kid together. I'm hoping you guy from the Bay Area can come north and cheer me on for the third pull.

Juanito, If this kid is dumb enough to challenge you a third time let me know. I'm sure I can get a few of us up to Sac to watch the carnage, sounds like fun.

I think we all smelled your clutch at the dyno but if I remember correctly you still did close to 400 at the wheels, not too shabby at all. And you did it with 37" tires too.

Your truck is one of the best-looking trucks out there, you have just the right amount of add-ons, and your soundproofing is simply amazing.

I know he will challenge me the third time. It's just a matter of time after he gets his truck fix and he feels he added enough mods to his truck that can beat me.
It sure did stink up the dyno area when I roasted my clutch. Yep almost 400 with the Smarty at SW #6. I guess it's not too shabby considering I was running 37” tires. If I had it at SW #9 I think it would have made over 400 but I would have to leave my truck there for a new clutch for sure.
Thanks for the complement. Since my retirement I have nothing but time on my hands and tinker on my truck every chance I get. You have a clean 2nd gen yourself. .

I try not to get into these topic's,but this one is one for the books. I live for the day when Hino diesel's are installed in 3/4 ton Toy Trundra. It cracks me up to think that anyone who own's a Toy after all of this year's headline's that anyone with a Toy would even bark let along challenge a Dodge Ram CTD,with a high tech Smarty to boot,I chime in after a drive one weekend up to Sac to visit my son, when a Trundra drove right up next to me and stay there for about 3 miles. I fiqured I would let his self esteem build up. So off we go and I just pulled away from him with very little effort from my CTD,and to add insult to injury I made it look like he was gaining only to pull away from him again. Toy owners do not seem to realize Dodge Ram's 5. 7l Hemi and the Cummins torque range's and were it starts and were it ends. These powertrain's did not make Ward's "10 Best engines" for nothing. He finally got the message and pulled in behind me and exited. And you can see from my signiture I too have mod my truck slighly. He would have been better off taking on a Dodge Ram 5. 7L "Hemi". After all apples to apples oranges to oranges. My advise to you if possible is when J. Donnelly speaks I would listen. I have had some very nice high tech talks in the past with him. It is a pleasure to talk with him over coffee also. So you should jump at his recommendation for the transmission upgrade. So if you what to trailer that beast of yours up to Vegas let me know I would love to do the honors.

The point is?

I don't get it. what does a tug of war prove? It certainly can't be power because with enough traction you can merely put it in compound low and idle through it.

An example, I have a Cat D6, 87HP. I'll bet either one of those high powered pickups would be dragged all over the ball field with it, why traction, the only thing that counts!!!

Edit: And I think it's foolish to wreck a clutch for something that doesn't prove anything.

I played tug of war with a 40ft container sitting on concrete out fitted as a work shop with a 06 crew cab long bed 4x4 Duramax truck. Was building a piece of rope to use as a strop and needed to set the splices. so we hooked up one end to the container and the other end to the rented crew truck that was used to tow the 35ft tender around. Started off in 2 wheel just idling then smoking the rear tires then smoking all four tires with the truck bouncing and a smoke filled boat yard, truck never really drove the same after

topcat, I have a Land Cruiser with a 4. 2L Intercooled Turbo Diesel at my second home overseas. Although not in the same league with our Cummins as far as power, it very reliable.

cojhl2, I was not out to prove anything to the whole world (except to this punk). I don't drag race, truck pulls or drive fast for that matter but spend a lot of time to keep my truck clean. You need to read the entire post. My clutch was already roasted during May Madness dyno day. You would have remembered if you showed up.

Actually Truck pulls require power and traction.

You are correct, I added the clutch note after posting the original because I forgot it was destroyed during a dyno run.
