In about two weeks I'll be doing a exhibition Tug of war with a 1970 Chrysler Imperial on a Suburban frame with a big block chevy. Any pointers you guys could give me would be helpful. The event will be held on dirt. Don't know if I should put the truck in low range or high. We did this earlier in the year and the pull was stagnent. I had the power but he had the tires (boggers). We now have boggers on the truck so it should be better but not sure what gear or transfercase range to use.

Thanks in advance

Find a way to pack as much weight in that thing as u can!! Hold the brakes till he starts to spin and then take him for a ride! I would say go with the low side!

I would think the higher your attachment point is, and the lower his is, the better off you would be. If yours was higher, it would tend to lessen his traction, and add to yours. Do you have lockers?

Run a lower tire pressure... Get one of those water bags from summit or wherever... The weight and tire pressure will help loads. If your truck hooks, it is all over but the crying.

I don't have lockers, but last time the truck had enough power to spin all four wheels.

I have my tires down to 45psi and I have the mopar side tool boxes that can be filled with water(they have a drain).

Fill the tires with water like they do on farm tractors. Good thing he isn't running the original 440 :) I did a tug of war with a friend years ago. We both weighed in around 5200# but that was about all that we had in common. He was in a 84 F250 4x4 with the 460 and auto, I was in my 1967 M715 with the 230 six and 4spd. I had 5. 86 gears to his 4. 11's and 9. 00 x 16 military treads to his 33 14. 5's. It was pretty much a dead heat in the mud. I just dug down to solid ground while he had more flotation. If either of us let up the other would start to go. So even though I had half the cubic inches and only a rated max 140hp I could hold my own with low deep gearing.

Cummins 4BT Hummer pulls a powerstroke:

This wouldn't be the one from Tire Rama would it? You'd better win; that thing looks rediculous! Did Jeff put you up to this?

I'd say follow the advice above and if nothing else keep it to the floor and he may quit due to smoke inhalation:-laf

I'm sure that is the one from Tire Rama. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that used to be Rob Mackenstadts car. I've seen your truck, if you get some good tires on you should be able to just roll into the throttle easy and pull the guts out of that heap. When is this going down? I'd love to watch.

Yes that is the car.

We got some good tires now(a new set of 37 x 13 boggers).

This took place yesterday. I must say I am very pleased with the results. The car lost both driveshafts, twisted the rearend housing to where it was pointing up at the bottom of the car and may have broke the tailshaft housing on the trans(big puddle of fluid under car. Before he broke I was looking in the rearview mirror and saw his rear tires stop spinning and knew it was just seconds from puking parts. I then proceeded to pull him out of the ring. :)
