After pulling air duct from filter box and turbo charger , I noticed one of the blades on the fresh air side of the turbo had a different color than the rest. Upon closer inspection it looks like a gray coating or paint has chipped off and back from the leading edge about 1/8 of inch. It looks like bare metal has been exposed. Also there is no FOD damage on any of the blades including this one and this blade does not look like the rest as far as a smooth surface. Looks like a forging line or a bad casting at the same point that the paint starts.

Has anyone noticed this on there stock turbos, casting lines or bad finish work? Could this be a blancing blade if there is one. Should I take it to the dealer and ask for a new charger or is this normal, the truck has 4000 miles and only one tow. I guess I better replace the K&N filter with the stock stuff before going off to the man. Thanks Joe Setina

The mark you noticed is completely normal. It is a balancing mark used in the manufacture of the turbine wheels. All of them have it. No need to worry about it. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I thought that might be the case, what do you think about the paint or coating that has come off?

me too

I noticed one blade painted white:confused: Not sure what it's all about. I asked the service mgr and he said not to worry, of course. what would he say, oh no, that's a defect, let me replace that for you right away:D NOT. It doesn't look like a big deal and I am not too worried about it, just thought I'd speak up.

Thanks guys, I'm not used to this type of balancing. Most turbines or turbos on stuff such as aircraft do it a bit differently. I guess I was looking for the same standards.

Sounds like the turbo on my 1. 5.

One blade looks like a layer was almost chipped

off it, like a paint flake. It was on the fresh air side

of the blade. I thought it was a casting or machining flaw.

I haven't been to the dealer in a long while to show them.

No probs so far 25k miles.
