Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Turbo Chirp - How Long?

My 1998. 5 24 valve has 303,00 miles on it and has started chirping when I let off the pedal. I am being easy on it as much as possible. How long can I let it go, do I need a total replacement, or can it be rebuilt? How difficult is it to rebuild and what special tools are needed?

I wouldn't let it go to long, it can fail and cause a runaway condition.
