i cannot answer your question from 1st hand knowledge but after much research on the net i have found that the HTB2 is a great turbo, much cheaper, seems to be reliable and HTT will help you upgrade if you want to go bigger ex. 62 to a 64 or 64 clipped or "sledpuller" 66.

i think the B1-2 is more comparible to the HTB2 but will empty your pocket quickly.

Bell USB well i dont know much about them other than they will cost you major jack and they are a great turbo. They are custom built from what i understand.

remember the old saying they charge what people will pay applies here so thats why the HTT crew is enjoys such great success. a fair price good product and great after sales service.

do you guys remember when the piers hx 40 was the gold stanard? i do and it was not long ago. these new choices mentioned above have really been great for us diesel guys and the HTT are in the right price range for a big custom balanced turbo.

when i get the scratch i am going with HT64 after i add laser cuts. i might have to upgrade to sledpuller 66.

JR adkins has a good turbo for under a grand that i am also looking at hard! JR might have the best deal i just dont know much about them. give him a call!!

Be careful with the USB. They don't all seem to be the same. Probably taken care of if DD is carrying them.

I have had great luck with my B1, spools nice and quick, and there is a broad spestrum of different variations of it out there too, www.piersdiesel.com has them, as well as www.nadp.ca, these are in Canada both, NADP is an awesome buch to deal with.

I think it would be pretty tough to pick a winner in THAT group.

I'd think that compressor map width becomes VERY important in that range, as your pushing some high PRs. From what I understand, Pius has a turbo that can do 55psi ON THE MAP!! I think this is the WSB-- not the USB that is more common.

Call Pius and he can tell you what he's got.

The other exciting option might be the new Super 40 and Pro 52s that Holset has now. Given that these are the only CTD upgrades made by a LARGE turbo manufacturer, I would expect some pretty good things from these chargers. The super 40 is supposedly efficient even at 4. 5:1 PR.

Given that Holset *is* so big, and that they are forthcoming with turbo maps and such for these models, I would have to say that this gives them a consderable edge in MY mind over the "guru" turbos where everything is super-secret.

I had a HTB2 that I totally beat the crap out of... Built like a Timex...

The guy who has it now loves it. I looked at it just a week ago, still perfect! He also drives his truck hard... :D

Is there a difference in a stock B1 and a bomber? I know someone who has a stock Schwitzer B1 for sale, but I didn't know if it was built as strong or not. Can we see some prices on the three.

Airwerks, an independent aftermarket program from BorgWarner Turbo Systems, makes an off the shelf turbo for our trucks also.

You can check out some info here on the turbo being offered from Borg Warner:

I'm interested in more opinions on the matter, because I'm in the same situation. I like the HTB2 on paper, but I'm keeping my mind open.

I'd like to get more amswers from people who have used these turbos also. I'm definately up for trying them all, but my bank account isn't. It looks like I may have to find a way though. Not getting much input really.

It's hard to get ubiased opinions about this sort of thing. Your (our) best bet is to start calling places that handle on or more of those turbos and ask them for a comparison... otherwise you will just get oooh's and aaaah's about whichever of them a particular person bought since people rarely have experience with more than one turbo of any class.

That being said, and with no personal experience with any of these, I still favor the HTB2 from what I've read. It's relatively inexpensive, spools very well, runs cool, has good drive pressures (with the 14cm housing), and is easily upgradeable, just like any other HTT setup.

The B1 has the marked advantage of being virutally indestructable, from what I've heard from people who own them, but have heard that they don't spool well, and the models that do suffer in the top end.

I don't know much about the USB line, but from what I've heard, they're 'spensive, which basically rules them out for me. :-laf

For comparison's sake, I made 434hp/975# torque with my mods. EGT right near 1400* at the end of dyno run at 46# boost on 5x5. I haven't been on a dyno that can load my truck like my 12k toybox can, Comp 3x5 pulls 45# boost and holds 60mph at 2000rpm on the Grapevine never passing 1300* (several miles of 6% grade starting near sea level). There may not be too many folks who've run all of those turbos, it's expensive and that list is many of the turbos that these people end up with after several others!

Guess I'd have to say that you probably won't be disappointed with any of them with the right match of injectors and fueling box. Haven't seen many (any?) negative posts on that batch. Am I rambling yet? Sorry!

I have both Pius USB, and an HTB2. I prefer the Pius. It spools quicker and keeps EGTS the same as the HTB2, but it does cost a little more. My HTB2 has a tendencacy to flutter, not quite bark but nearly, if i try to run steady up a long hill. It doesn't matter if I am towing or not. Both turbos allow me to run 80, at 30lbs with EGT's right around 1000. If price is an issue then the HTB2 is probably better for you, if it isn't the Pius is the way to go. They are difficult turbos to find, at least they were when I was shopping around. I did see one in the classifieds though. Scott from Mass Diesel can answer all your questions about all 3 turbos too.
