Many times it's not done but here's that good ol' excerpt from the D/C Ram Owners manual:
Driving Condition/Load /Turbo Temp/Idle time before shut down.
Stop And Go... ... . /Empty/... ... . Cool... ... . / Less Than 1 Minute
Stop And Go... ... . /Medium/... ... ... ... ... ... / One Minute
Highway... ... ... ... . /Medium/... . Warm... ... / Two Minutes
City Traffic... ... ... . /. . MAX. . /... ... ... ... ... ..... / Three Minutes
Highway... ... ... ... /. . MAX. . /... ... ... ... ... ..... / Four Minutes
Uphill... ... ... ... ... . /. . MAX. . /... ..... HOT... ... . / Five or more
And obviously if you have a pyrometer you can safely monitor your shutdown temps until 350* (Rule O Thumb) or less is reached.
