Is anyone running a 14cm wastegated housing?I curently have the stock18. 5 and was wanting to upgrade. I heard it will push more air than a 16cm,is that true?I need a housing that is good for towing as well. Lots of guys say the 16 is a good housing for towing. I was wondering if any one has any towing experiance with the w/ gated 14?Reason I was wondering is I found one for sale for a good price.

The 14 'gated is a good housing simply because it has the wastegate... . that will keep you out of trouble for the most part if you set and use it correctly. In addition the 14cm will spool fairly quickly... quicker than a 16cm.

The advantage of the 16cm is the fact that it will spool quicker than your 18. 5cm housing and it will still allow as much flow thru it as the larger 18. 5cm does... . kinda the best of both worlds.

You need to decide if you're going to get aggressive with the fueling and so forth. If so then the 16 will do well for you because the extra fueling will get it turning fairly quickly.

With a stock turbo (compressor) you can use either housing but the 14cm would be a better choice assuming reasonable highway speeds and weight. It'll get up and go pretty quick and generate about 4-5psi more boost than your 18. 5cm will. (each size you go down will produce roughly 2-3psi more boost. )

The wastegate should be set around 24psi and if you run higher boost than that now, you will have the 'gate fully open by about 28psi, keeping you out of trouble from high drive pressure and EGT aggrevation.

Wastegated or not, I like the 14. I am running a non-wastegated 14 on my truck right now. It is ported as was the 16 I was running prior to this one. I have picked up 4 psi boost and the spoolup is WAY quicker. Where I used to put out a black cloud when I got on it under low boost conditions that lasted for quite a while, I now leave a dark haze because I'm at 25+ psi within a second of getting on the go pedal. My truck will currently put out 40psi boost on a hill. EGTs will get up around 1350 if I stay in it long enough. Otherwise, they stay pretty low. Today, I was cruising at 80 and EGTs were running 650 with 8psi boost. Oo. Gotta love those kind of numbers! :D

Now if you pull, especially if you pull heavy, your EGTs could get out of hand real quick with a non-wastegated housing. Bob B pulls pretty heavy with a wastegated 14 and he really likes it.
