Quick question to you guys. Does anyone know how you are supposed to pull out into traffic when the gas peddle is pushed to the floor and your truck is not really moving until the turbo kicks in? I have had both Ford [1999 7. 3 liter International] and Chevy diesel [2004 Duramax] trucks and both had quick turbo response. The Duramax by far impressed me the most with it's power and quick response of the turbo. This turbo lag delay is basically the only downfall I have found about my 05 2500 quad cab 4X4 automatic truck and otherwise am impressed with it.

Sounds strange to me. My '05 (if peddel is mashed to floor without power braking) will break the rears loose withing about 4 ft. Pure stock with no mods.

Your kidding me! I step on the peddle and it takes about three seconds before the turbo kicks in and it won't spin the tires unless I power brake. I appreciate your input and this just makes me wonder even more.

I know my 06 will do the same without a second thought. Sounds like you may have something maybe keeping you from spooling quickly? Dirty air filter? Maybe a bad or dirty MAP sensor? Also, in my experiences the auto trucks seem to spool faster than the sticks, problobly because of the slip in the TC. Somethin funny going on there.

I thought there might be a problem because I can honestly say that my previous 04 Chevy duramax had more power. My truck only has 7500 miles on it and has run the same way since I took it home from the dealer. I have taken the air filter out and left the air filter box open for a test drive but it didn't seem to change anything. I don't know how I would go about getting the MAP sensor replaced because I am sure the dealership will say there is nothing wrong with my truck.

I can tell you this. The day I brought my truck home new. '05 325/600 4x4 Q/C short bed, w/ 3:73 & anti-spin. I was squealing tires like nobody's business, and I wasn't trying to do that at all. I could barely tab on the throttle while leaving a stop light & sometimes I could hear the tires breakloose or spin. I would say around 4K-5K after the newness wore off the tires & they became more sticky, I would really have to romp on the throttle to get anything to break loose. Then I went from 265/ tires to 285's BFG Allterrains. Now when the BFG's were new, same as when the truck was new, I could lightly tip-into the throttle and it would chirp the rears, or spin them. Now that my 285's are worn in. With the Juice/ Attitude set at (stock) they ain't gonna break-loose. I have to have the Juice/ Attiude on 4x5 or 5x5 to get the tires to break lose. And even then it's an initial puase, count two seconds then all hell breaks loose. Oddly enough, even with my toolbox in the bed, loaded with crap, the heavy grille-guard. I my truck feels factory gifted in away, I always slightly edge out other 3rd gen Rams when I run them with the Juice/ Attitude stock for stock. This was even proven last month when I ran my buddies brand-new 2005 2wd Q/C 2500 325/610 and mines a 4x4 325/600 I had him by about a bed lenghth at 80 mph or so. Then I ran him on setting 4x5 and blew him away, but hey. I don't think the fact your truck doesn't spin the tires, means it's lost power. I think it has a lot more to do with the tires being new.

I had the same issue with my 2004. 5. Never owned a diesel before but just did not go when the go pedal was applied. 62,000 miles later I can add some words of advise or what I found to help. After adding the TST Powermax CR the truck had a power band like my old YZ 80 dirt bike. Still lagy off the get go, I could count one, two after mashing the go pedal before it went. I ordered the Bully Dog with the Crazy Larry program and that seemed to do the trick. The go peddle became real touchy. It made it hard to do 70 MPH down the freeway without cruise control on, real jerky. Added the BD MP-8 a short time later and it smoothed things out.

I would suggest to you to try the Bully Dog and a pressure box. You don't need the Crazy Larry version though it's just way to much. No more counting one, two then go for sure.

P. S. The following advise could lead to divorce and finical hardship. I will in no way be held liable for any wrong doings from this advise.

Good Luck-

Thank you guys for all your input. This kinda excites me because I now find out that my truck actually has some hidden power. I just have find out how I can fix this situation. Oo.

Slukas, let me know what happens. I seem to have the same problem. I hit the gas and nothing really happens for a few seconds until the turbo kicks in. I can't spin my tires while turn right from a stop.

If this was my truck I would be changing the fuel filter and tightening the intercooler clamps.

If you have the means I would hook a LARGE trailer to the truck and give it a good workout, this tends to loosen up a tight engine.

I will let you know as soon as I find the problem. It is good to be able to talk to other truck owners on how our truck should be performing because I am sure both of us would have never known.

My truck has always acted this way. I changed out my fuel filter at every oil change (5K). I now have 31K miles and have towed over 12K miles. I imagine that it almost broken in. I just made an appointment with Dealer. I will point them in the fuel system direction. I always tell them my "friend" with the same exact truck had a simular problem amd it turned out to be the left pump. It usually works for me. Thanks

I will definitely try this to see if I can get it up to par with every other normal Dodge/Cummins. Did you have this problem also?

Well that sounds like a good plan and please let me know if the dealership finds the problem because I will try the "friend" trick also. Thanks

As far as having this problem... ..... no.

But these trucks have always needed to have the I. C. clamps tightened, at least the three that I have owned and many other trucks that I have checked.

The fuel filter and the air filter are an easy problem to rule out. It's just good practice to eliminate the easy stuff first, trying to keep it simple before you chase the complicated things.

This keeps us from having to visit the dealer too. :D

I hope you guys figure it out, my truck has never spun the tires. Not like the GMC Duramax at work, you can't get on the gas without letting them loose, even with a fuel tank and a load (off pavement). Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't give up my CTD for a GMC ever! I guess it's Dodge's way of saying us money on tires!

My truck with a stick and duallies wont light the tires but will definitely plant you in the seat and has alot of snap. If there's the slightest lack of traction it will break loose and has done it since new Oo. . Good luck with your problem

my truck w/ the same problem just got 2 new injectors and same turbo lag but better top end, rail pressure is low max of 21,000. its the LP or the relife valve i bet, i'll run it back to the dealership and have that stuff checked, after my fuel pressure guage goes on! :-laf
