I have an 2001 auto truck. At around 50k miles I noticed oil seeping from behind the turbo (intake side). I also have oil on the inside of the turbo, behind the silencer ring, and all over the blades, everywhere. I do run a K&N air filter. I am careful not to over oil it, and the engine is bone stock. Is it possible the oil on the inside of the turbo is from a internal leak or is it just coming off my filter?

I am about to take the truck to the dealer before my 7/70 expires.

Also, the reason I believe the oil is not from the air filter is because the air cleaner housing and tubing are always VERY CLEAN and DRY on the inside. NO OIL RESIDUE ANYWHERE.

Any way, just wanted to run this by you guys, thanks.

It sounds like it's slathering around the seal, but you might want to check one thing. If the crankcase vent or the turbo drain line is obstructed, you won't get a good drain of oil back into the crankcase, and the oil can be forced around the turbo seal. If it's going out of warranty, though, I'd probably let the dealer diagnose it, just in case.

I'd put a stock filter back in. clean everything and drive it a day or two.

Even if it's not the K&N, this would save having to argue with and hopefully convince the dealer the K&N wasn't at fault.

Is there a good way to clean the turbin blades? I noticed a fair amount of residue on mine today and I'd like to clean it and check things. Secondly, when I had my hose off I spun the turbine blades and they spun freely for the most part then they seemed to spin with some resistance. It was as if something was holding it although I couldn't see anything but a black residue similar to soot. When i cranked the truck it spun perfectly and it's been spooling as quickly as always.

Texasdeere, I had my turbo, and hoses on that side, replaced under warranty because of oil leaking. I had just over 27k on my truck. I couldn't keep from blowing hoses,(did have a little more boost than stock), It didn't matter, my dealer took care of me. (again) Dave
