I have been a motor head for 50+ years. I like to do mods to my pickup that improve drivability, but try to be careful about serious efforts to significantly increase power. It seems like, and I think this thread supports my position, that you end up chasing your tail with "new" problems.
I do have an AFE air filter, Banks twin ram, 4" complete stainless exhaust, boost fooler,TST# 11 cam plate, twin trans coolers and a South Bend clutch. All of that was an effort to more quickly introduce boost to improve drivability, lower EGT's, and improve reliability. It has worked, as I can run full fuel on the longest grade, get up to 36 lbs boost and never go over 1100 - 1200 EGT.
I have built a lot of race engines, so I am always tempted to do more to my pickup. I temper that by remembering the NV 4500 that I already destroyed and the vicious cycle that pursues when going for more power. There is always that next weakest link...……...
Not throwing arrows guys, just supporting those that know when to quit!
