dint want to pollute someone else subject .....

1st gen 12V intercooled Cummins 93 Ram , A518,3:54 gears .....(low milage )

I want to get 300-350HP out of my Cummins ( what are the expected torque figures for these HP )

reason will weight around 9000 lbs when converted into a RV

already ordered some 5 x .012 SAC 145 nozzles from DAP and a 3200 governor spring from DAP ( Jkid) ;-)
already did the mods on the VE pump

yes..I have all the gauges ( EGT, Boost , transmission oïl temp & AFR )

Already changed for a K&N CAI.....

Will change the exhaust for mandrel 4" .....

So , turbo Wise : should I go for HX35W , HX40 or HE351CW ?

I just cant decide myself ........newby to cummins mods ,just cant figure wich would achieve my goals .......at 9000 lbs I want a good running rig that will climb hilly roads without dying ....nothing more.....

thanks for all inputs !

Dan

I dont have the know how... just some 'hear how' ;) ... The HE351CW is quick spooling and i have read of folks using this one on 1st gen Rams. You do not want too big a turbo. Hx35 could also be an option,.... hx40???

Hey Dan!

Well, 300 hp will be plenty to pull a 9k lb rig up and down the hills. Among the 3 turbos listed, I think the HE351 would be your best bet. As far as gauges go, AFR doesn't really tell you anything on an diesel since they run so lean most of the time. You may be better served to get a fuel pressure gauge to fill that spot. As for the K&N air filter, you may consider getting rid of that and going with a better quality filter. Do some reading, but K&Ns have some of the worst filtering ratings of any filter. On a turbocharged diesel that breathes gobs of air, that's a bad thing. A better option would be the BHAF, etc. Hungry Diesel has a relatively inexpensive kit available for that.

I think with pump mods, 5x12s, 3200 gsk and a HE351, you should be pretty close to the 300 hp range. You'll want to bump your timing some, or maybe get a M&H timing spacer. Do you have a fuel pin yet? if not, you might get a mild one. I'm a manual transmission guy, but you might need to upgrade your torque converter or some trans mods at that power level.

At 300 hp and 3200 rpm, your torque will be almost 500 ft-lbs; however, your max torque will likely occur at a much lower rpm (2400 or so) and be around 600 ft-lbs.
