HX 35 question...

Steering concern

I just have two quick questions, I cut some holes in my stock air box today to "open 'er up", and now the turbo whine is very nice and loud, can hear it almost all speeds, even with just very light throttle. It is really loud in the cab, which is cool, but not as noticeable outside the truck (i drove around for a bit with my head out the window like Ace Ventura). Is this normal, or did I do something wrong? I'm just not used hearing my turbo so much.

Mine is the same - especially after I put on the ATS 3 piece manifold and the HX35 from Piers. I LOVE IT. Oo. Oo. Anybody who rides with me loves it. :D :D

Jaynes, you got some pics of your 35 setup nonIC'd style? How did you guys do it? On the sound, just wait til you remove the airbox and put a BHAF in its place... .

It was late by the time we got done playing with his pump, so we didn't get any pics. I'm not sure if he has a camera or not, I'm sure he'll post pics if he has one. The best way to do it would be to get an intake hose off a 92 or later with the 4 inch turbo side. That way you don't have to monkey around the 3 inch inlet on the stock hose, like we did (which is temporary, until he can get the updated hose). Then you have to reclock the housing to point up at the crossover tube. Once that is done, take a sawzall and cut about 1. 5 inches off the end (right before the flange), otherwise the crossover tube will actually sit inside the outlet from the turbo. Then we just used a 3 inch intercooler boot, and some heavy duty clamps and voila, you're done. The most important thing is to get the later model intake hose, then you've got it made. The rest is a walk in the park.

PS Almost forgot, the exhaust has to be moved back about 2 inches. We accomplished this with a pry bar, and when he straight pipes it, he's going to take that 2 inches back out.

have you removed that dreaded silencer ring yet?! man those things are so quiet.

Man, i removed that thing (well... AJ did  ) before I even got it in the mail!

Ok so thats awesome I just wasn't expecting when I opened up my air box to find the turbo sitting in the passenger seat! :D You guys are probably going to kill me, AJ for sure if he ever sees me again, but I called the dealer for a price... . Pastor Bob, forgive me for I have sinned. $103 for an intercooled intake tube!!!! :--) :--) . I shalt repent of this sin and commence not hence forward. And yea, as I walk through the valley of the shadow of RIPOFF i will fear no dealers, for thou wilt kill me for to rid mine ignorance. :-laf So i'm looking elsewhere. The problem with junkyards is I think we have one here in CoMo, and they don't have much. I looked in the TDR classifieds too, no luck, so I'm gonna put a post up and see what I get. For now i'm gonna go try that junkyarddog.com or something. Let ya'll know what happens... i love that turbo sound!!

OH and I will get some pics before I put the new hose on, my buddy has a digital camera, could do it real easy.
