Going to replace the wiper/ turn signal, the wiper portion of the system quit working. Seen a Youtube that shows that the battery should be disconnected and to wait half an hour to disarm the air bag bomb on the steering wheel, I have no problem with that but was wondering about when hooked up again if theres going to be a code thrown for having them disconnected for that long. I know that one of our cars if the battery is disconnected for however long it is the car needs to be reset and idle for awhile before it returns to normal op's.

Thanks BIG

I replaced mine and did not disconnect the battery as the steering wheel does not have to come off, its pretty straight forward to replace.

Should be two fusses for the Air Bags that you pull them up for service work. I remember correctly they have some yellow contraption on them that lets you only pull them up and out of the circuit but not completely out of the fuse box. I also have replaced mine wiper multifuntion switch on two different trucks and didn't remove the battery cables.

For what it is worth on one truck it fixed the intermittent wiper issue on the other it did not. They tell it is in the wiper motor on the one it didn't fix.

If you are going to pull the steering wheel than it is always a good idea to disconnect the batteries. But in most cases you can get the two "hidden" screws out that holds the MFS in place without removing the wheel. Once the screws are out a quick pull on the switch lever will bring it out. Most people do not reinstall the screws.

Here is a post from Seafish from 2012. I had posted photos in that thread but like the injector install photos they aged off the system.

Here's how I did it--

(1) remove the 2 screws which hold the plastic "clamshell" together behind the steering wheel (torx bit)

(2) Remove the steering wheel up/down lever (pull back towards the driver seat)

(3) Pull the top half of the clamshell up and the bottom half down, spreading it out around the ignition switch

(4) Disconnect the wiring harness from the switch by pulling back the red locking tab and then sliding the plug towards the front of the truck

(5) Remove the 2 phillips screws which hold the multifunction switch to the steering column (they are on the left side top and bottom, just next to where the switch stalk joins the switch body... NOTE--a right angle phillips screwdriver is REALLY helpful here). Then, depress the little grey tab in the center of the switch body while pulling along the stalk, strait towards the drivers door... it WILL slide right out.

Installation, obviously, is the reverse of the above steps.

Replaced the switch with new WITHOUT REMOVING THE WHEEL It didn't fix the problem but now I know next time how to put the switch in without removing the wheel and the death defying procedure WITHOUT DICONNECTING THE BATTS
