I only wish that I could enable mine..... I've tried everything & it just won't take. It won't 3 cyl. or high idle. I've asked on a few threads, but got no reply from other members. Any suggestions?

It either has to be really cold or it has to sit for around 12 hrs or so unplugged in the low 30's. I haven't plugged mine in once this year amd the coldest it has been was 7*. I got the 3 cyl idle on that day... i

Its been ranging between 0*-15* here & no high idle yet.

First off, I love the 3cyl high idle.

The problem I have seen is when it is extremely cold ( -20F or colder) The truck will go to 1200RPM immediately then jump to 3cyl in less than 20 seconds. The truck will almost stall, hammering, sputtering and rocking at about 600RPM for a few seconds then go back to normal 800rpm idle. I am going to try to get this on video next week as we have a cold spell on the way.

I would like to have a much longer delay at 1200RPM, say 90 seconds before it tries to kick down to 3 cylinders.

What I do now is wait for the truck to start to ramp up and hit the brakes to start the whole cycle over.

Would it be possible to have the programs adjusted?

John

My truck idles at about 1200rpm on cold mornings (all 6 cyls) and holds the egt at approx. 400*. Is this normal? I know my brothers '00. 5'/DEE doesnt high idle. A Smarty was programmed for about 20 minutes once just to try it out. Did the smarty leave something or is this standard. This is my first winter with the truck.

i hope im not hyjacking.

Even the "stock" program in the smarty enables the high idle feature. So basically one smarty can enable every truck in north america if it made it to every truck :D

If it gets cold enough you will experience the 3cyl idle. If/when it happens don't be afraid, it sounds TERRIBLE :-laf

Remove your AIT and clean it with CRC electrical cleaner or a like brand. If you have an aftermarket oil-type air filter or use an exhaust brake the AIT will get covered with a film of oil and skew the sensors reading. Also, if you plug your truck in it wont work. It needs to be in the cold about <10 F for about 10-12 hrs for it to work... if it has been enabled properly by the dealer or you are running a Smarty program.

Where are you located? Friends truck did not high idle so i installed the smarty on 7, run the truck around and returned it back to stock and now his high idle works. All the smarty does is enables it in your ecm.

Is there any way to turn off the high idle feature? It is just too cold here...

Thanks,

   Huh.

That is the reason for the high idle. Best way to kill a diesel engine is to let it idle excessively at low idle in cold temps.

Experienced the high idle today for the first time (sat outside all day at about 15 degrees). After starting, it took a minute or so of regular idling and then the rpms slowly came up to about 1250.

Does anyone know at what temperature the high idle and also the 3 cyl mode kick in? Just curious...

I first borrowed a smarty from a fellow member..... then borrowed one from Bob for some more experimenting. I recently bought one of my own & after 3 programmers set at all settings... ... I am getting nothing. I think something may be wrong..... I've tried everything that I can think of. Its been below 0 this week at night & still nothing.

Are you pulled in, it will not work if you have the truck pulled into 110V's. SNOKING

I ran a Superchips programmer for a year & hoping that the superchips didn't leave a ghost program in the ecm that may have to be reflashed to enable high idle. I'm just trying to think of everything... . Is this possible?
