I hope I got the right forum.
I'd like to mount a small LED TV in my camper, an exterior wall.
What's the best method? I'm thinking one of those articulated wall mounts, but what are the ramifications of screwing it direct to the exterior wall (other than the obvoius....dont drill too deep).:-laf
Is there any preferred method of properly anchoring this thing in the wall?
Thanks
Eric

I would be worried about having a sound structure to bolt the arm to, the walls are only 2" thick and if aluminum framed that would be another problem. Now if you drill all the way through you could add plating on the outside and allthread through the wall for support :-laf

If the walls are aluminum framed, I'd think you would need to use as many Rivnuts as possible in the studs for the articulated wall mount. If they're wood framed, then I don't know if I would trust short lag bolts or not - it depends how many you can use and how sturdy the framing is. All of this, of course, depends on the weight of the replacement TV.

I ended up mounting a large piece of wood (oak) that was 12" wide by 24" long to the wall... in my case I could find the aluminum studs in the wall and screwed the 1" thick piece of oak to the studs.... than screwed the tv mount to the oak.... now 3 years later... its still in good shape.... I also ran a set of hooks and when we are traveling down the road the tv is bungee corded to the wall (oak panel) to keep it from bouncing....

My new Forest River has reinforcement in the bedroom wall to mount a TV. You might tap around where you are wanting to mount your TV to see if there is a plywood piece behind your wall.
