Shut the truck off the other night and "What the :confused: ?" Dang thing keeps runnings. For some stupid reason, I turn it back on and turn it off again just to see if something different happens this time. :rolleyes: Guess What? It still didn't shut off. :(

Now ordinarily, this wouldn't be that big of a deal. A truck with 250K+ miles and replacing the fuel shut-off solenoid is not surprising. Only problem is, I just installed a new one less than two months ago. Gotta pull it out this weekend and see if it is the same problem as before (chunk of tip) or the whole tip like happened to HDM48 earlier this year.

Oh well. So much for keeping a spare!

Obviously you know that when you turn off the key, the power is cut to the solenoid?

Maybe too obvious of a question, but you don't want to chase your tail.

I second the motion to check power to the solenoid WIRE when the key is turned on/off. My engine sometimes runs on a second or so when I turn the key off. I dont worry about it- it starts in the cold, gets 20MPG, and ensures others in traffic keep their space.

Daniel my service truck has done the same thing (4bt ve pump) I pulled the solinoid out had metal shvings on it cleaned it off and worked for a long time had to change the pump eventually. Hope thats not what you have going on

Hey Carl

Did you get it figured out yet? Did you find that extra 10hp yet?

Every time mine goes out or starts to it just shuts off while driving down the road. I have heard of a few that wont shut off though. Kindof stinks that you have to pop the hood to get it to shut down.

Hey Jeremy!

Did I find the extra 10hp? :-laf :-laf :D I think so, plus a little. Went with a non-wastegated 14 housing and opened up the down pipe a little. Dang thing is getting me 40# boost now. :D That and fixing the intake manifold leak I found a PDR's 1st gen day. How's BUST going? Haven't read much lately.

When I pull the wires, the truck dies. That is what is supposed to do, right? :rolleyes: Seriously, it keeps on running when you pull the wires. Gonna pull it out this weekend and see what it looks like. I have one more spare plunger around. I hope it last a little longer. Of course, I hope I don't find any metal in there either. This pump has over 260K and I've already warned the wife it is on borrowed time. I just hope it's not right before Christmas. :{

The B.U.S.T Project

Well the plan is to take it to the shop next week. I have all the parts for my twins sitting at the shop. Then the next step is to have a new improved fuel pump built. There is going ot be a dyno day down here in CA in January. Hopefully I will have everything dialed in so I can put down some good numbers. If I can make it to a dyno before then I might have some numbers to post. I would like to run it before I get my new pump made. So far with the new head and some other things it has been running very strong even better than it did up at Piers. I will keep everyone up to date. Hope you get yours fixed real soon.

I just picked up a spare at my local Portland Bosch rebuilder for $60. 60 US. - P/N 0330 001 040 12v solenoid for 0460 426 205 Diesel pump. Thats about 1/2 the price of a Cummins part. The pump number is off my pump.
